Note: And here they are again. In Vegas! This ought to be interesting.
--------------------------------------------------------------"Aaaarrgghhh! The heat is stifling! Who's idea is it to come to Vegas in the beginning of summer? Oh yeah, not mine!" Maine mutters to herself as she exits McCarran International Airport with her luggage in tow. She enters a cab and tells the driver her destination "Wynn, please". As the driver turns on the ignition, the flow of air conditioning can be felt and Maine breaths a sigh of relief as she leans back on the seat. When FHA contacted her to iron out the details of this trip, she was told that they are given 4 days and 3 nights (all expenses paid) but the first day is for orientation. It's not mandatory that they attend the first day so Maine opted to forego the orientation and arrive that day instead since she is coming off a night shift that morning.
This is the first time she'll be going on a trip without her son and she didn't think it was going to be this hard but it is. Just this morning when she was getting her son ready to drop him off at her parents house, she was sobbing like there's no tomorrow. In fact, she contemplated on bringing Sebastian (with nanny Pearl) along with her but her sisters convinced her not to BECAUSE obviously the 'father of baby or FOB' (what the sisters resorted to calling RJ) will be there! DUUHH!
After Maine confessed to her sisters who Dr. Faulkerson is to Sebastian, she made them promise not to tell any soul just yet. In return, she promised to find a way to tell RJ in which Coleen jokingly says: "maybe you can tell him in Vegas bwahahaha". Maine shakes her head at that memory. Coleen with her ever twisted humor.Maine was brought back to the present by the driver announcing they've arrived. She hurriedly steps out of the cab, pays the driver and almost ran into the hotel lobby to avoid the afternoon heat outside.
As she entered, she was stopped short by the decor. This is the first time she's ever set foot in this hotel since it opened. She's been to Vegas numerous times in the past but she's always booked a room at Ceasars Palace (yup, the ever predictable her). She looked around the grand lobby and admired how the colors of red, brown and yellow compliment each other and how it brings such a welcoming atmosphere. As she was standing there admiring her surroundings, a very familiar voice whispers in her ear "hey there partner". She whips her head around to find RJ standing there, with that bedimpled smile, looking like he just stepped out of a GQ cover. How the hell does he look so cool in a suit when it's burning hot outside Maine thinks to herself. And then she sees his face getting closer...oh shit! Is he gonna kiss me?Oh my lord help me! I have no willpower! I haven't slept! Please I just got here!" She was about to close her eyes when she realizes that he was just reaching for her luggage.
RJ then straightens, looks at her (with a smirk on his face) and states "you should go check in now so you can have a rest. You look like death. There's a welcome dinner tonight. It starts at 6:30 if you are interested."
"Uuhhhmm I'll think about it. Thanks" she responds as she follows RJ to the reception desk.
After she registered and got her key card, they headed to the elevators. While waiting, Maine can't help but remember their elevator encounter 2 years ago. She can vividly recall what they did inside the elevators that she can feel herself getting wet and her breathing speeding up. She throws RJ a surreptitious glance and from the way he was breathing and the way he was gripping her luggage handle, she knew he was reliving the same memory.
Maine decided to break the silence."Ahem. I can take it from here, Dr. Faulkerson" she says as she reaches for her luggage.
"RJ. We're not at work. And no, it's ok. You look dead tired. I got it" he replied. "What's your room number anyway" RJ added hoping that he didn't sound too eager.
"1024" she states as the elevator doors opened.
RJ signalled for her to go ahead as he followed suit. Maine headed to the right corner of the lift and RJ took the left. Both faced the front as the elevator started to rise. 1...2....3.....4..... Maine by now is gripping her key card and her phone in her hands. No words were spoken but the tension increased as the elevator rose. It appeared like they both didn't have any control over their bodies because the distance that separated them earlier is now becoming shorter and shorter. RJ let go of the luggage handle and was about to grab Maine when DING! the elevator doors opened. Maine had to clear her throat to refocus and as she stepped out she heard RJ mutter "FUCK! Saved by the bell, again!"They walked silently and when her room door came into view, Maine stopped and signalled "well, this is me. Thank you for your help. Uuhhhmm, I'll try to attend the dinner tonight but otherwise I'll see you tomorrow, I guess" she states.
"Yeah. Well, uuhhhmm, we probably should connect before the presentation tomorrow. The program showed we are presenting in the afternoon. I just thought maybe we errrr, should talk about the presentation beforehand" RJ mumbles while placing a hand on his nape. What the fuck RJ! How many times do you need to use 'presentation' in a sentence.
"Yes, of course. Totally forgot about that. Uhhhmm lets go through it tonight then. I just need a couple of hours to nap. I worked last night." Maine explained.
"Ok. Forget about the orientation dinner. I'll come by around 6:30? Hopefully we'll be done in a couple of hours so you can get a good nights rest? That is if that's ok with you" he shot back.
"Yes, sounds like a plan" Maine answers distractedly while putting her key card into the slot. She pushed the door open and turned around to RJ who is now standing a foot away. How in the world could a tall guy move so fast?!? His head is bent to bring his face closer to her. And just like that, SHE FORGOT! She forgot where she was, why she was here or what she's supposed to be doing. She forgot how to breath. She forgot how to move. Her vision has tunnelled into RJ's lips as it got closer and closer. When their lips finally met in a kiss, she lets out a sigh of contentment. Like she's home. Wait...whaaat?!? How did this happen? We were just talking. Like two normal sane adults do.
It started off as a chaste kiss but it quickly turned into something more erotic. RJ was not content with just their lips touching. He grabbed Maine's head in his hands and his tongue snaked out begging to enter her mouth. Maine had no choice but to let him in. REALLY?!? Yes, really. I mean honestly, if a certain Richard Faulkerson Jr. begs for entry, no woman would deny him. Well not this woman anyway. Maine welcomed him in with her tongue duelling with his. She vaguely heard someone moaning not realizing it was her. She reached out to cup his face and accidentally dropped her phone. The sound of it hitting the floor, minute as it was, was enough to bring her to here and now. She pulled back and literally pushed RJ away from her. With their breathing ragged, she stepped in her room and closed the door in his face. She leaned her forehead on the door to reorient herself and get her breathing to slow down. Dear god Maine! He kisses you and you forget everything else? How do you think you're supposed to last these next few days if one touch from him and you turn to jelly! Ugh! And now you've resorted to talking to yourself! After a couple of minutes, she hears RJ calling out to her from the other side of the door.
"Uhhhmm, Maine?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, you kinda forgot your luggage out here" he answers with a hint of laughter in his voice.
"Oh shit" she mutters and quickly opens the door only to find RJ with a smile on his face and still gripping her luggage.
She deftly grabs the handle from his grasp, pulls it inside and closes the door the second time.
RJ left for his room with a grin on his face and a spring in his step. It doesn't matter how Maine seem to appear unaffected by his kisses, RJ knows differently. "Oh she's affected alright. That could be to my advantage. You've won this round Maine, but I know you're kryptonite. I will win you yet. You'll see" RJ whispers. VIVA LAS VEGAS indeed!
