There was silence all around the area as Viktor stood in the middle of the courtyard taking watch. Nothing moved except for when the breeze ruffled his scarf a bit. Other than that, it was as if it was a still life painting.
He stared at nothing, but saw everything. He felt hollow, but also felt full of something he couldn't quite place his finger on. He thought back to her, but quickly reminded himself that she wasn't important and that he liked the solitude.
But the fact was: he didn't.
Viktor liked being with her. She was one of the few people that he could put up with. No one else compared to her. She made him feel like a human, not a statue.
His face showed no emotions as his heart ached a little at the memories of them. He remembered when they first met, and then when they met again after that. He remembered when they first became friends. He remembered the promises he made to her when they were together. Despite what he would say, Viktor remembered everything.
Viktor blinked once.
He could remember how he had grown up privileged with everything, but he wouldn't give anyone the time of day. He was always so stoic and he could bring fear to people in just one glance. He didn't really like it, but that was just how it was.
Viktor could recall having everything given to him so he could become powerful in the long run, yet he was still missing something. And that something was missing for quite a few years. That is, until he found her.
Her. Her. Her name. Why couldn't he remember her name? It was the most beautiful name he had ever heard, and he couldn't remember it.
Viktor's brows creased together a little in frustration of the lost word. Then he remembered.
(Y/n). Her name was (Y/n).
Her smile could light up a thousand cities. Her eyes sparkled brighter than the stars. She gave off more energy than the sun. (Y/n) was practically perfect.
But she did have one flaw.
It was a fatal flaw, something that would have eventually gotten to her later. And sadly, it did.
He didn't want her time to come, but it had to. It was written in the stars. Inevitable. Bound to happen. Viktor thought it happened all too soon.
He hadn't had much time with her before she was taken by it. She slipped from his grasp too fast, and he hadn't been able to catch her.
Viktor chuckled sadly to himself.
Oh, how foolish he was to think that something so good would stay around for at least a little while. It was a ridiculous thought. Nothing gold can stay. And, unfortunately, she was pure gold; inside and out.
An owl hooted in the distance. Viktor blinked again.
The wind started up. His clothing fluttered around him. His tall frame cast a dark shadow over the courtyard.
Viktor shifted his gaze a little higher to see the moon. He remembered that she loved the moon. But she wouldn't always see it all the time.
"Well, now you can see it every night," Viktor mumbled to himself, yet not to himself. He glanced back over his broad shoulder at the slab.
He smiled sadly and blinked a third time.
Then again.
And again.
Salty tears spilled out a little from his eyes that kept everything. He had to look straightforward to keep from anymore escaping.
Then he stood. Still as a statue. Not moving, and letting the breeze dry away his tears.
