"Hira. Hey, wake up."

I stirred in my sleep, barely registering that it was Waleed's voice I was hearing. "You have school, yallah."

"I don't want to go. Leave me alone." I groaned, turning around to face my pillow face first, burying my head into its comforting warmth.

"Get up, Hira. I'm taking you to school today." He said. "And I'm not waiting all bloody day for you, so hurry up." He muttered, pulling the blanket completely off my body until I heard it land on the floor with a soft thud.

I raised an eyebrow, still facing the pillow. "Why the hell are you taking me?" I grunted and rolled over, forcing myself to get out of bed.

"You've got 10 minutes, I still need to get to work." Way to ignore my question.

"Alright, get out."

He walked out of the room and closed my door behind him as I went to the bathroom to wash my face and do my normal morning routine.

As I looked into the mirror, my eyes grew as I saw a purple mark on my upper left cheek, right under my eye.

"Bloody hell." I muttered to myself, shaking my head and walking to my wardrobe to pick out an outfit.

I really wasn't in the mood today so I slipped into an oversized Nike jumper with a pair of blue jeans and my black jersey scarf. I got dressed and went to the dreaded downstairs where my little brother, mum and dad were having breakfast, whereas Waleed was standing at the door, holding his gym bag.

I saw my mum start to get out of her seat and my dad turn around but I quickly stopped them. "Umm...Waleed's gonna be late for work so I'm just gonna...go." I mumbled awkwardly, picking up an apple from the bowl and kissing Hassan before leaving.

I walked to the shoe cupboard and took out my white Nike's and slid them on, walking out of the door after Waleed.

"How are you feeling?" Waleed asked me as soon as he pulled onto the road.

"Not too good, but whatever." I replied.

He inhaled and released a deep breath. "Baba feels really bad too, you know?. He knows he stuffed up." He said, causing for me to nod my head.

"I know. He realised a little too late though."

"He just didn't know how to go about it. It was the first time something like that's happened."

I turned to look at Waleed exasperated. "Exactly my point! He should know that I wouldn't do that sort of thing! The fact that he actually believed it hurts more than anything."

Waleed looked at me. "Well, that was corny." He said, releasing a small laugh, clearly trying to cheer me up a little.

"Yeah, it sounded like a bloody movie line, didn't it?" I said, easing out a small chuckle also.

The air in the car was more positive after that and soon enough, we arrived in front of the school.

"Stop here, I can walk." I told him when I realised he was going to pull into the actual parking lot.

He nodded. "I know you can."

I raised an eyebrow. "Waleed, stop. Why are you coming?" I asked him as soon as I realised he was looking for a parking spot.

"Why do you think I'm coming?"

"Oh my god. No, okay, you do not need to do anything. I don't want to drag this on."
