I woke up with a pounding in my head. Screwing my eyes shut, I took my hand to my forehead and rubbed it."Here, babe." I opened my eyes slowly and looked up at Amir who came into the room with pills in his hand and a glass of water. Sitting up slowly I glanced at the alarm clock on Amir's side of the bed.
It was almost 12.
"Thank you." I said softly as I took the pills from him and swallowed them down with the help of water.
The events of yesterday came running through my head and I looked down, fiddling with my fingers, my nerves all over the place. "I can't believe he said that to me." I mumbled softly.
Amir sighed, exhaling as he placed the empty glass on the side table and came closer to me on the bed. "He didn't mean it. It must've just slipped out."
"He won't go back on his word." I muttered as I put my head in my hands, crossing my legs and leaning my elbows on my knees.
"It's alright. Look, there's only a month and a bit until school finishes. You've got time to raise your grades and still get into uni. Have patience, yeah?" He said as he put his arm around my back and pulled me into his side.
"Why aren't you at work?" I asked him after being held in his arms for a while.
"I told the boss I had a family emergency." He said to me and I released a small smile. "Thank you."
He shook his head in dismissal and then exhaled. "So what do you want to do?" He asked me. "Let's make the most of today."
"I appreciate it, but I'm not in the mood to do anything." I said softly, scared that he would get offended.
I didn't want to offend him. I knew his boss had seriously warned him about no days off so I really did appreciate him for taking the day off for me, but I was truly in no mood to do anything exciting.
He licked his lips and nodded. "Okay. We'll stay home then." He shrugged. "Are you hungry? Let's go have breakfast." He said.
I nodded and got up, walking to the bathroom first before walking inside. I sat on the kitchen stool, watching Amir put salt and pepper in a bowl of cracked and whisked eggs.
I smiled slightly, watching him as I rested my chin in my palm.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" He asked as he turned around with a raised eyebrow and saw me staring at him.
"I'm grateful for you." I answered him simply.
He gave me a small smile and came to me, leaning over the bench and placing a kiss on my forehead, before turning around and taking a pan out of the cupboard and lighting the stove.
"Where's mama?" I asked him.
"She went out to have lunch with some of her friends like five minutes before you woke up."
"So the house is empty?" I asked him.
He turned around and raised an eyebrow at me with a smirk. "Yes?"
I rolled my eyes. "I was gonna say maybe we can watch David Attenborough instead of Turkish soap operas for once."
Now it was his turn to roll his eyes. "You and your David Attenborough." He muttered as he turned back to the stove and cooked the omelette.
"He's amazing. Everything is just so....ugh," I muttered not being able to find the right word. "SubhanAllah, man. That's all I have to say. Allah created every creature so perfectly, SubhanAllah."
