Mornings...mornings are the best part of a day, scratch that, for me. I really love the peace and quiet it brings, the moment just before dawn, the darkness fading thus introducing an illuminating brightness, the new beginnings, new chances and hope. The bliss of seeing another day. it was around 6:00am in my comfy bed next to Hameed enjoying this beautiful morning. Then I heard the noise. Someone was in my house, who could that be? The noise grew louder and I began to panic. I turned and saw hameed sound asleep. I nudged him to wake up, but he only stirred and turned his back to me. I rolled my eyes at him, sounds stupid because he was oblivious to my action. Suddenly I heard a loud sound, like something fell and I stood up abruptly, Hameed also woke up. Well it was about time. 'Someone's in our house'. I whisper-yelled. Hameed stared into my eyes without saying a word. The silence was deafening, and just then we heard another sound. What the hell? This thief clearly wants to be caught, couldn't he be more discreet? I mean if I were him I wouldn't be so careless and making all this unnecessary noises unless of course I was asking for a death sentence... wait, was he seriously asking to be caught? Yet again I was not him so it's obvious he is not thinking straight.

Hameed stood up and went to a painting that was in the room, I painted it for him as his gift for our first anniversary, he decided to put it in our room, 'I want it here so that whenever I wake up it will remind me of the best thing that has ever happened to me, which is you my darling, my sweet. I will love you till eternity.' Those were his exact words, was that true? Or was it just part of the charade? As if he heard my question he put the painting down and behold! There, where the painting once laid was a safe. A safe I never knew was there. I gasped and put my hand on my mouth, eyes wide as I stared at the safe then at Hameed. He looked into my eyes and shrugged answering my unspoken question. 'For our protection'. He said dismissively and turned towards the safe, he punched some numbers I couldn't catch and the 'click' sound came as the safe opened. He quickly took a gun and headed towards the door, I followed.

Hameed turned to face me 'stay here'. He said as he turned to leave once again. 'Like hell I am staying, I am coming with you'. I shot back. He turned to face me he put his hands on my shoulders and fixed his gaze on my eyes. 'Amal. stay'. He said his tone filled with finality. I removed his hands on me and step closer to him, our faces were few inches apart, I could feel his breathing on me. 'I am coming with you'. I used the same tone he used with me. Minutes past and he finally sighed 'fine, but you stay right behind me'. He turned, murmuring something under his breath. 'She's god damn stubborn'. I couldn't help but smile.

We entered the sitting room with caution, I heard Hameed put on the safety of the gun; he switched on the lights and there lays a man, in MY kitchen, eating MY food. He turned and faced us, his face lighting as he saw us. If I didn't know any better, I would say he looked happy to see us. 'ahh! Did I wake you? And I was being extremely careful, no matter, it was about time you love birds wake up, breakfast is ready.' He announced motioning to the table, and there, on my table were some sandwich and orange juice. I looked at the strange man then my kitchen. He got some nerve! 'Salaam, Amal, How are you?'. The strange man said smiling at me. I turned to Hameed and I saw him lowering his gun and moved forward, towards the man. I held him and he turned to face me. 'Who is he?'. I asked my eyes darting towards the man. 'Go to your room'. Hameed said sternly. 'Hameed who...' he interrupted me before I could finish my question. 'Amal, I said leave, don't argue with me now just do what I said please'. I looked into his eyes and for once I saw fear, his eyes showed care. I sighed and nod my head to leave.

'Wouldn't that be rude brother, I come in peace, I should say salaam at least.' He faced me and smile, his smile was genuine, he came closer and I felt a sense of familiarity, his face looks utterly familiar. 'My name is Sardat, I've heard a lot about you, sister'. My face went pale. All the blood drained. My heartbeat increased. My eyes widened as I recognised him. Sense of fear taking over me. My legs gave out and I staggered. I felt arms quickly hold me. 'Amal, are you okay?' Hameed asked his voice laced with concern. I managed to get my eyes away from Sardat on looked at Hameed, he looked worried and I managed to smile. 'I'm fine, just a little tired I guess'. I turned to Sardat only to see him staring right back at me, but his eyes did not show any concern. He looked into my eyes intently and I felt my hearbeat increase. He was very intimidating. 'arhghm... nice to meet you Sardat, it looks like you've made yourself comfortable'. I said glancing at the table. 'I hope you don't mind'. he asked. 'No, not at all, you just do your thing'. I said looking back at hameed and started towards our room. 'You know, I've heard a lot about you, but all what I heard doesn't do you any justice, you are exquisite'. He said coming closer to me and smiled. I looked back at him. 'You flatter me Sardat, a gentleman indeed, once again it's nice to meet your acquaintance'. I left the room as fast as I could.
