Chapter 3

Ashton led me out the back door and into the alley behind the club, and we sat against the wall. "How long have you been a fan?" he asked me.

"About a year or so," I said. "A friend of mine told me y'all were opening for One Direction, so I looked you up and fell in love."

"Awesome! Do you like our new song?"

The guys had released a song last month called "Try Hard", and it's one of my favorites.

"Yeah, it's amazing! Will it be on your first album?"

"Probably not. We've written plenty of other songs that we don't need to put older ones on there." Ashton paused, probably to take in my appearance. "You know, now that we're out of that dark nightclub, you look very familiar. You're not on YouTube, are you?"

"Yeah, I have a vlog channel. Why?"

Ashton's jaw dropped. "Then I HAVE seen you before! You're Brittany Lowe from Brittany and Darren, aren't you?! I watch your channel all the time!"

I giggled. "Thanks, Ashton. I'm flattered."

"I guess that means you're still with that Darren bloke, right?"

"Yeah...what's your favorite video on there?"

"I don't know. Probably that time your son laughed for the first time. What's his name again?"

"Everett."

"Oh, yeah..."

The conversation continued for almost two hours, with a break in between so Ashton could tell Luke that, no, he wasn't coming to the hotel yet.

At 10:30, Ashton invited me to stay the night at the guys' hotel. I was about to decline when Heather suddenly appeared and said, "She'd love to!"

Ashton's face lit up in elation. "Really, Brittany?" he asked.

I sighed. "Okay, but just for one night, and use a condom," I told Ashton. "And Heather, you're coming with us. Tell Darren we're staying in Chicago tonight."

After Heather made her call, Ashton hailed a cab, and we headed for the Four Seasons, where the guys were staying.
