Chapter 8

Brittany's POV

"Was it that bad?" Chelsea called after me as I carried Everett and my bags up to the guest room, Alexis following closely behind.

I didn't answer; instead, I kept going, walked into the guest room, and got the kids and myself ready for bed. I barely had time to change into my nightgown before Chelsea joined us.

"How hard did he take it that you won't tell me about?" she asked.

Chelsea and I sat down on the foot of the bed. "He threatened to kill Ashton for sleeping with me," I informed her.

"Hey, that's what restraining orders are for! And remember, you've got a concert to go to soon!" I slowly offered a smile. "There you go! Do you feel better now?"

"A little. Thanks, Chelsea."

"Sure!"

The next morning, I made an appointment with my obstetrician, Dr. Saunders, and was able to get a slot for that afternoon at four, right after we pick the kids up from daycare and preschol. After the call, I edited yesterday's vlog and uploaded it to YouTube on my own channel. Then, I started recording today's vlog.

"Good morning, guys!" I began. "I'm here at my friend Chelsea's house because I just called off my wedding last night due to commitment issues. Anyway, I took some pregnancy tests yesterday, and they all came out positive! So, I have an appointment with my obstetrician this afternoon after I pick the kids up to find out how far along I am. See you there!"

I stopped the recording for the time being and decided to take a long nap, since I didn't get much sleep last night.

Chelsea and I had a bit of a wait at the doctor's office, and the kids were starting to get restless as a result. I filmed some of the vlog while we waited.

"Mommy, why are all those ladies fat?" Alexis asked innocently.

I gasped. "Alexis Katherine Lowe! Do you know how rude that sounded?" I scolded. "They're not fat; they're having babies, and they're here to have them checked out."

"Why?"

"Because the doctor needs to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible when the time comes for the baby to arrive," Chelsea replied, earning a lip-zip from Alexis.

"Hey, Everett, are you bored?" I asked him in a baby voice after focusing the camera on him. "I'll bet you can't wait to find out if you're getting a sibling, huh?"

"Aaahhhhhhhh!" Everett babbled, clapping his hands.

I giggled and panned over to Teagan, who was playing with Chelsea's hair.

"Teaguie-Pie, don't play with your mommy's hair," I said in the same voice, but a little firmer. "That hurts her."

Teagan giggled and tried to put a strand of Chelsea's hair in her mouth.

"Gross! Don't EAT it!" Chelsea scolded, pulling her hair away.

Teagan persisted, and Chelsea kept pulling her hair away. "I think I need to put it in a ponytail from now on," she said.

"That's probably wise," I agreed just as my name was called. "That's us, kids! Let's go see the baby doctor!"

I stopped filming and followed the nurse to the exam room, with Chelsea and the kids in tow.

"Nice to see you again, Miss Lowe," she said to me as we entered the room. "Where's Darren?"

"They just broke up," Chelsea explained. "It's all good, though; she found someone better!"

"Is that someone, the reason why you're here, Brittany?"

"Yeah, actually," I said. "It's Ashton Irwin from 5 Seconds of Summer."

"Oh, how exciting! Well, just sit tight, and Dr. Saunders will be in shortly."

I paused the recording until Dr. Saunders came in and greeted us.

"Where's the hubby?" she asked me.

"We're not married, and we never will," I said. "That's all I'm gonna say."

"That's alright; things happen, you know? And I see you brought the kiddos!" She crouched down to talk to Alexis and Everett. "How are y'all today?"

While Alexis beamed brightly, Everett sucked his thumb, and Chelsea answered for him. "He's excited to get a new baby brother or sister," she said. "I'm Chelsea, by the way, and this is Teagan. I'm Brittany's best friend."

"Oh, yeah! You were at the hospital when Everett was born; I remember you! So, Brittany, just lie down for me, okay? I'm gonna see how far along you are in your pregnancy."

I gave the camera to Chelsea and lay down on the table, where Dr. Saunders placed her stethoscope on my belly and listened for a heartbeat. A chill went up my spine when I heard not one, but two of those familiar thumping sounds.

"Oh, my! You're eight weeks and three days in, and there appear to be twins in there!" Dr. Saunders remarked. "Are you getting this, Chelsea?"

"I sure am!" she said.

"Twins?" I repeated. "Holy sh...crap!"

"You heard it first, guys!" Chelsea said as she recorded. "My best friend just may be having twins! She'll have her first ultrasound next week...right, doc?"

"That's right," Dr. Saunders said. "Miss Lowe, I can't wait to hear your family's reactions. Let me know what everyone thinks at our next appointment, alright?"

"I will," I promised.
