Chapter 22

Nikki's POV

After my shift was over, I was at home feeding my curly-coated retriever, Dudley, when my phone rang with an unknown number.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey, um...is this Nikki Hart?" the male voice asked with an Australian accent. That was when it clicked that it was Luke.

"This is she. Luke, right?"

"Right! You sound pretty fit."

I giggled. "Well, I do exercise a lot."

"No, no...in Australia and the UK, 'fit' means attractive. You sound attractive."

"Oh, thank you! You sound pretty cute yourself. You and your band are from Sydney, right?"

"Yes, we are. Are you from this area?"

"I'm actually from Huntsville, Alabama, but I moved here five years ago. I was about to fix dinner if you wanna come over."

"Nah, can't; we've got a flight home soon. We could always have a date over Skype, though. What's your Skype name?"

I gave Luke my Skype name, and we said goodbye.

At about two the next afternoon, as soon as I came back from walking Dudley, I got on my computer to see if Luke had sent me a Skype request. To my delight, he had, so I quickly logged in to see if he was still there. I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw him on the screen.

"I was wondering when you were gonna answer," Luke teased.

"Sorry, I was walking my dog," I explained.

"Oh, you have a dog? What breed?"

"Dudley is a curly-coated retriever. I've had him for about a year now. How was y'all's flight?"

"It was good! We got in at about 4 am, but we got plenty of sleep. What's for lunch?"

"Just a sandwich. It's your every-day turkey-and-cheese."

"Nice! So, tell me something else about yourself."

Luke and I spent the next hour talking about our lives and how Luke and his band got together. It really felt like we were hitting it off. Luke ended the conversation with, "It was a great pleasure to meet you, Nikki. I hope we can talk again soon."

"Oh, we will!" I promised. "Have a good night...or day...or whatever."

"It's half eight here, so night. Bye!"
