My eyes blinked rapidly as I awoke in my tent, next to Nick. We had both decided to get some rest after our discussion, so we told the others to come get us if something happened.
I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I hadn't realized how tired I was until I was all settled in my sleeping bag.
Now I was awake and alert, my mind still worried about the possibility that the Wendigo was real.
Nick groaned beside me as he sat up and rubbed his forehead. "Hey." I said as he started to get up, reaching out for my hand. I took it and with one swift motion, he had pulled me to my feet.
"Let's go assemble the campers. I have a few ideas." Nick said quietly as he led me out of the tent.
We reached the campfire area, which seemed to be the main place where everyone hung out. I spotted Ashley talking to Sam, so I called them over.
Eventually, Nick had rounded up the whole camp, who were either standing or sitting on logs.
Nick cleared his throat, before addressing everyone.
"Look, I know things seem bad right now, but we can't give up. We have three people still missing and we need to find them. From now on, you are all to stay with your tent buddies. No one is to go out into the woods. It's too dangerous." He paused to glance around at the campers, who were staring at him intently. I guess you could call Nick the leader of the camp now.
"What about the Wendigo?" Someone shouted out. Apparently, Lucy had got the word around. I couldn't figure out who had shouted, but Nick still answered.
"Let's not jump to conclusions. We don't know anything yet." Nick replied, but then someone else shouted out.
"You need to tell us everything! It's not fair that we don't know what's going on! What's all this talk about a Wendigo?"
Everybody turned to see who had spoken this time. All eyes fell on Zack, who had a terrified look in his eyes.
Nick let out an exasperated sigh, knowing that he had to admit defeat. If he denied everything, it would look suspicious.
Finally, he explained what he knew about the Wendigo. A few of the campers gasped in fright, while others just stayed quiet. There was one thing that they all had in common, though.
Each and everyone of them were scared.
"So what do we do?" Zack asked quietly once everyone had settled. Everyone stayed quiet.
That's when Zack abruptly jumped up, his eyes roaming the crowd. "Lee?" He whispered. "Lee!" He shouted as he sprinted away from the group.
"Zack, what are you doing?" I yelled as Nick and I sprinted after him. "I'm going to get Lee!" Zack shouted back.
That's when I realized where he was running. I grabbed Nick's hand to stop him and pointed at Zack, who was heading straight into the woods.
I pressed my finger to my lips and everyone fell silent. This was when we all heard a voice that sounded a lot like Lee.
"Zack! I'm in the woods! Help me!"
