The thing hanging from the branch was dripping with blood.
It was a pale white colour on one side and had hanging bits of flesh on the other. A foul smell lingered in air.
I felt bile rising in my throat and before I knew it, I was hunched over and vomiting my guts up.
"Are you all right?" Nick gasped as he ran over with a worried gaze. I wiped at my mouth with the back of my hand, the after taste making me gag.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied. "Are you sure that's skin?" It looked legit, but I couldn't be sure. That's when Nick's face went as white as a ghost.
"What is it?" I muttered as I staggered towards him.
"The Wendigo skins its victims." He replied coldly. "Do you think it's Lee, Michael or Zack?"
"Hey, let's try not to think that." I said nervously.
It was a possibility that the skin belonged to one of the missing campers. Who else's would it be?
"Do you think we should tell everyone else?" Sam asked as he scrambled off the ground.
Nick shook his head quickly, saying he didn't want to freak anyone out. "I'm gonna go hide it." He said before grabbing a stick and prying the skin off the branch. A minute later he was back with Sam and I, looking quite shaken.
The night gradually passed and soon the sun was rising.
Earlier in the night Nick had told me to get some rest, so when I awoke, I was lying comfortably in my tent. I got up and quickly changed my clothes, before stepping outside and into the sunshine.
All the other campers were awake and packing up their tents, tired looks on their faces. I caught Sam's eye as he wondered over to where I was standing and asked me if I would like some help with packing up the tent. I agreed and a moment later, the camp was packed.
"Okay everyone!" Nick called out as we all grouped together. "Can everyone please make sure that all of the campers are present. We don't want to lose anyone else."
Immediately, chatter broke through the crowd as we made sure everyone was present.
I could see Sam and Nick, but I didn't really know anyone else.
I searched the crowd for Ashley, as she had got a chance to meet some of the campers. "Ashley!" I called out. "Ash?"
My breath started to speed up as I looked around again. Had my eyes missed her in the crowd?
"Nick, have you seen Ashley?" I asked in a panicking tone.
"I haven't seen her. Becky, what's wrong?" He said calmly.
"Well, I searched the crowd but she's not here!" I cried out. "Where is she?"
Nick didn't answer. Instead, his eyes fell to the ground and he whispered something barely audible.
But I heard it very clearly and tears spilled from my eyes as he spoke.
"Becky, is she's not here, do you think the Wendigo has her?"
