PAISLEY

It's lunch now and I'm already tired and worn out. It's only the first day of school but I feel like I've been here forever.

I'm sitting outside and leaning on this big tree, in the shade, to protect me from the scorching heat while I'm reading a book.

Yes this is how I'm spending my lunch hour.

Sigh.

I rest my eyes by closing them, but little did I know how tired I actually was because I started to fall asleep.

JAKE

How irresponsible can she be? Sleeping in public like this, in an open space?

Paisley Archer you are so dumb!

I watch her in fascination from the opposite side of the field as she still manages to look so beautiful while sleeping. Also a lot more peaceful and kind looking too. But she has also got to be one of the dumbest people alive to have stupidly fallen asleep in public.

Now, I'm definitely finding it hard to believe that she didn't try to kill herself.

I realize that I'm putting more attention onto her as the people around me start to notice my sudden interest in the sleeping girl under the tree. I immediately look away and shoot daggers at everyone who is looking at me.

They probably think I'm a stalker or a creep, but honestly this is where I usually hang out at lunch, or I leave. I was supposed to leave today but I saw her sitting there looking all vulnerable and approachable so I decided to stay and try to prevent anything from happening to her.

"What are you looking at?" I roll my eyes when I hear my sister's annoying voice behind me.

I'm guessing she followed the direction where my eyes were looking when she starts to tease me endlessly and repeatedly. "Ooh does Jake-y have a little crush?"

Oh fuck no.

I turn around and face her immediately. "What are you doing here?" I spat out.

"Oh my goodness relax, I was just wondering if I could get a ride from you today. My boyfriend Alex, you know Alex right?" I roll my eyes again. "Of course you do! Anyways, he has practice so yeah can you drive me home?"

"Pay for my gas," I say with an evil grin plastered across my face.

"What! You're kidding! We live in the same household!"

"And what's your point?"

"You're like kinda obligated to drive me home!"

"Actually, I was like obligated to drive you home," I reply sassily, imitating the sound of her annoying voice. "Mom offered you a driver's course and you stupidly declined. And if I remember clearly, your reasoning was and I quote "I have a boyfriend, he'll drive me".

She lets out a groan of frustration while I enjoy my clear victory. "What do you want? I'll do anything," she pleads.

My eyes widen in surprise as I hear those words come out of her mouth. She never pleads.
