JAKE

I wish I could've told her the truth, but by the looks of it, she sure as hell won't stop until she finds out. The expression on her face screamed determination when I not so subtly put my wall up again.

I've known her for little over a week, I'm not about to spill my darkest utmost secrets to her. But that won't stop me from trying to figure out her secrets. I might already have an idea, considering my sister told me a little something about it but I want to hear it from her.

Oh wait...

Oh shit! My sister!

I stomp on the brake immediately, causing my body to lunge forward... and Paisley's as well.

"What the fuck?"

"Shit," I mumble incoherently.

"What?"

"I forgot to pick up my sister from practice," I groan in frustration and slam my head against the headboard a few times.

"You're an idiot," she mutters under her breath, while shaking her head in disbelief.

"In my defence, she never asks me to pick her up since her boyfriend always does that."

Paisley scoffs and sucks in her breath. "That doesn't excuse the fact that you're still an idiot."

I roll my eyes at her insult, and try to come up with an actual excuse.

But before I could defend myself, a loud car honk interrupted me. I looked at the rear view mirror and saw that a car, containing a man, was right behind me, impatiently waiting for me to get out of his way.

"See... idiot," Paisley mumbles to herself.

I immediately swerved my car to the right, away from the middle of the road, and waved at the driver that passed by me—a poor attempt of an apology for my dumb ass behaviour.

All the while, Paisley is looking at me with a suppressed smile. For once in the short time I've known her, she seemed... lighter.

"You know what, Paisley?"

"What?" she asks blatantly.

"You should really drop this act of yours that makes people think you're like the spawn of satan," I tease, but the statement still very much the truth.

She rolls her eyes.

"You should really stop dropping people the minute you think shit goes sideways."

What?

I don't think that was actually supposed to come out, considering she is now looking at me with wide, frightened eyes.

I looked at her in disbelief as I try to comprehend the words that just left her mouth.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" I asked, as the sounds of cars whooshing past us continuously replaces every second of silence.

Finally, after a few seconds that felt like forever, she answered.

"You dropped me because I was what? Too bitchy for you? What? Was I too annoying?" She practically shouted.

"I didn't drop you? What the hell are you talking—"

"You ignored me for a week, and it really sucked because I thought you were my friend. I don't talk to anyone else, but don't think much by it, you're not some special dude–it's just that no one can handle my bitch attitude," she heaved a long sigh, before continuing.
