Natsu woke up at 5 a.m sweating bullets. He looked around the dark room. The loud sound of Erza snoring from downstairs broke the deadly silence. Gray and Laxus looked so peaceful. Natsu was the only one awake in the house. He was alone. The dream. In the dream he was alone. Alone. Green. Black. Pink. Smiles. Peace. War. That's all he could remember. He placed his hand on his fast beating heart. Was it a nightmare?
Lucy was startled by the sound of footsteps. She turned around to see Natsu slowly walking down the stairs. She turned off her phone and rubbed her eyes. She couldn't stop thinking about Natsu. Did he really forget?
"Oh.... Hey Lucy. You still awake?"
"Yeah...... Couldn't sleep." She was desperately hoping Natsu wouldn't ask what she was doing. If he did she could lie but he would know she was. Then he would figure out she was searching if amnesia was a side effect of depression and anxiety.
"So........ What you doing?" Crap. Lucy hoped Natsu wouldn't notice her pushing her phone under her pillow.
"You know.......... Just laying here........ Thinking about life. Um.... Why are you up so late?" Natsu sighed and walked into the living room. He silently sat down on the couch. Upon closer inspection Lucy saw the panicked expression on his face and the sweat covered shirt.
"Woke up..... From a dream."
"Dream? Like a nightmare?"
"Not sure."
"............Natsu?"
"Yeah?"
"..........I-I............ D-Did you................. Never mind."
"What? Is something wrong?" Lucy went to opened her mouth. Nothing came out. She couldn't tell him. She just couldn't.
"No. Nothing's wrong." Lucy was surprised at how fast she answered. How was it so easy to lie to him?
"Okay......... I should go-" Lucy grabbed his hand.
"Um......... Can you stay here?" Natsu looked at Lucy in shock. His face was burning.
"W-What?!"
"Shh! Wait..... NOT LIKE THAT!!! I just can't sleep......... That's all."
"Okay...... Yeah. I-I'll stay." Natsu awkwardly positioned next to Lucy. They laid in silence before sleep claimed them. Natsu woke up to see all of his friends gathered on the couch talking and laughing.
"Looks like someone broke the rules." Gray teased. Natsu's face went red.
"I-It wasn't like that! Lucy wanted me to-" He looked to his left and saw a blushing Lucy staring at him.
"Whatever. What do you guys want to do now?" Laxus asked while winking at Natsu. Natsu was set back by this but he quickly answered.
"We could........ Go to the park?"
"Sounds like a plan." The red head agreed while picking up the broken pieces of her phone scattered around the room.
"Sweet. What time is it?" Natsu asked searching for his phone. He mistook Lucy's phone for his.
"Wait! Natsu that's....................." Natsu stared at the screen. He looked up at Lucy. A lump rose in his throat. He dropped the phone. He slowly stood up and took a deep breath. Without giving it a second thought Natsu walked out the door.
"What was that all about?" Wendy asked in a worried voice.
"I-I........... It's all my fault." Lucy buried her head in her knees.
