Natsu eyes widened. That was right...... He had an older brother. Zeref. He hadn't said that name in such a long time. It felt foreign. Silent tears streamed down Natsu's face. Natsu reached out to him but his hand twitched back. He saw it. His brother was crying tears of joy. He embraced Natsu, holding on to him tight as if to make sure he didn't go. Drip drop. Rain fell drop after drop. The two brothers cried so much they couldn't tell their tears apart from the rain.
"It's got to be fate."
"Huh?" Zeref asked his brother in confusion.
"That we met here....... We're all together....... Just like we used to be."
".............Yeah."
"What happened?"
"..............What do you mean?"
"Where did you go?"
".........They took me..... Apparently they had some heart because they refused to kill me......... That was their downfall." He clenched his fist and a menacing smile flashed on his face.
"W-What do you mean?"
"They were stupid enough to leave me untied and unsupervised............. So when they weren't looking I grabbed a knife from the kitchen drawer and took a knife......... First one in the neck. Next one in the back... They were down before they could even react." Natsu's eyes widened. He had to keep himself from freaking out. His brother....... H-He killed somebody...... D-Death. A perfect road paved by fate. All black. It kept most people on the ties of life and reality. Of what was right and what was wrong. Zeref and Natsu decided to take sidewalk.
"Zeref......... I know they were bastards but that doesn't mean-"
"Are you serious right now?!!!! WHY DOES IT EVEN MATTER?!! THEY WOULD HAVE DIED ANYWAY! I JUST SPED UP THE PROCESS! THAT'S ALL I DID!!" He was drowning in guilt.
"Zeref................"
".........................."
"Zeref....... Look a me."
"....................."
"LOOK AT ME, DAMMIT!"
"?!"
"Look.......... I'm so so so sorry...... It's okay....... It's okay.... We've got each other now...... It'll be okay. We're a family." No. This wasn't right. He was too caught up in the moment. He would only hurt Natsu. He couldn't. He had to leave him. The dark cloud hung above him as a curse and a reminder. His job was to rain down despair.
".................."
"Come on." Natsu stretched his arms out for a hug. He held the invite in front of Zeref's face. Natsu was smiling. This was it. He would finally be free. He found his family. Drip drop.
".................."
"What do you say? Let's be a family again.... Big bro." Natsu continued to hold his arms out. Waiting for his brother to except him. He waited. He waited. He waited until he realized Zeref had already walked away. Natsu's smile still stuck. He refused to move. He refused to except this. Soon he realized his brother wasn't coming back and his smile slowly faded. His arms fell limp at his sides. His mind began to shut down, unwilling to think anymore. He didn't get it. Why?! Why did he leave?! W-Why? Tears fell down his cheeks rapidly now, in unison with the rain.
Natsu sat there with his head buried in his knees. His mind was racing. He left him in the rain......... He wasn't the one who ran........ Then why did it feel like he was? He dug his fingernails into his legs. He bit his lip. He was soaked in his and mother natures tears. Maybe she was crying for him. Maybe the universe did care. Maybe it didn't. If he was to pray who would hear?..... Certainly not someone who carried. Natsu's limbs were too weak to move so he just sat there. Each drop of rain hitting his head. Soon the noise of his sobs got louder. What was wrong with him? Why did he feel so weak? Pain. It was all to blame. Stupid human emotions. If only.......... He heard her, shouting through the rain.
