Zeref sat in his lightless office. He was holding a picture when Invel walked in. He had an unpleasant frown on her face.
"Principal Zeref?"
"Yes.... Invel?" He put the photo in his desk drawer. A sorrowful expression covered his face.
"Is something the matter? You've been down lately...... As the vice principal..... I need to know."
"This has nothing to do with the school......." The principal has always been known for his bluntness.
".......................? Not.. About the school?.............." Invel was surprised. He never thought of Zeref having a life outside of the school........... It's not like he never thought about it....
"I-I made a mistake........." Invel nodded solemnly. He knew all about making stupid mistakes.
"................Everybody does........ What is it?" Invel couldn't help but be curious. He was hoping to get some answers out of him. He wanted to know.
".................I don't think I'm ready to talk about it."
"You can always come to me-" Invel was more then shocked when he saw a single tear fall down his principal's cheek.
"S-Sorry. It's not your job to watch over me............. But you do deserve to know a little more about your principal......" Zeref slowly opened the black drawer. He was procrastinating. Another thing Invel would never expected Zeref to do.
"Sir....... I-It's alright you don't have to-" Before Invel could finish Zeref slid a photo across the desk. The bottom of the photo stood straight up. Invel felt like he should look. He might not get another chance.
"Go on. Look." Zeref spun his chair so that it faced the other direction. He didn't want this moment to be about Invel. He wanted it to be about finally freeing his secret..... He wanted so badly to let it all out........ But he knew this wasn't the place or the time.
"Sir............ Is this your family?"
"...........It was." Zeref wiped the tears off his face and turned his chair so he could face Invel. He wanted him to look him straight in the eyes when he told him this.
"...... What do you mean?......." Invel he knew what he meant. He just didn't want to be right.
"They're gone. They have been for a long time. Except.........For the two little boys..... Can you guess which one I am?" Zeref couldn't help but smile.
"The one with black hair?" Invel smiled too. The smile slowly carved into a frown.
"........................"
"The one with the pink hair?..............."
".............That's my little brother.......... Natsu.........."
"Where is he?"
"He goes to Fairy Tail High."
"W-What?!"
"I-I met him for the first time in 11 years......... And I left. I walked away. I-I....... Left him in the rain."
"Because he goes to Fairy Tail High?"
"No. I left because......... Because........ Because I love him, Invel."
".................... I don't get it." Invel was known for being cold and emotionless....... Expect when it came to Zeref.
"Of course you don't get it." Invel felt his heart crack. He didn't show it though. He kept his usual stern expression.
"............. So are you going to meet with your brother again."
