16. A Trip Down Memory Lane

A few days later

Normal POV

There was a knock on the door to Dawn's home. Johanna skipped over and opened it, smiling when she saw Ash. "Good morning dear!" She chimed. "Good morning Johanna!" Ash replied, using a tone as cheerful.

"Dawn will be downstairs in a minute, come on in." She said before opening the door. Ash stepped inside and closed the door behind him. "So what is your plan today?" Johanna asked the boy. "I'm going to take Dawn to significant places that might trigger memories from our relationship." Ash explained. "But I plan to keep Paul out of it, like you asked." He added. "Thank you." She smiled.

A voice spoke up, "Who's Paul?" The pair turned around to see Dawn had come downstairs, but only heard the mention of Paul. "Hm? Oh nobody. We were just talking about something." Johanna covered up. "Uh.. okay." Dawn sweatdropped, before turning to Ash. "Hey Ash! I'm ready to go." She smiled. "Hey Dawn! Alright, we'll see you later Johanna." Ash decided, walking over to the front door with Dawn, Piplup and Pikachu. "Bye guys! Have fun." Johanna smiled as they left.

"So, where are we going today?" Dawn asked, as they'd closed the front door and walked over to Ash's car. "Today I'm going to take you to certain places that hold significant memories from our relationship.. and I guess see if you remember anything." Ash explained. "I hope I do.. I hate this a lot." Dawn sweatdropped, she wasn't enjoying this amnesia at all.

"Does this car bring back any memories?" Ash asked, once they were inside, with their seatbelts on, Piplup sitting in the backseat with Pikachu. Dawn then blushed, "What.. kind of memories?" She asked, awkwardly. Ash blinked in surprise, realising how bad his question probably sounded to Dawn. "That's not what I meant!" He blurted, now blushing too.

"We've gone on a few road trips together in this car, even before we were dating." Ash explained. "A few times we couldn't get a hotel room so we slept in here.. we put the seats down and looked at the stars through the windscreen." Ash admitted, "The sky always looked so beautiful." He admitted, with sparkles in his eyes. "I'm sure it was.." Dawn sighed, "I don't remember." She admitted.

"That's okay! Maybe you will remember something after today!" Ash smiled, trying to remain optimistic. "I sure hope so." Dawn admitted, with a smile. Ash started the car and began driving, Dawn looked out the window and watched as they drove, looking around as if it was the first time she'd ever gone through this area.

The pair drove for a while, first stopping at Lake Verity. "This place seems beautiful.." Dawn trailed off, looking out the window as Ash parked the car. "It is! It's really nice.. this is Lake Verity!" Ash explained. Dawn smiled, before turning to Ash, "So what significant memory happened here?" She asked.

Ash exited the driver side of the car, Dawn doing the same except exiting on the passenger side. Piplup and Pikachu followed them. "This is where we met for the first time." Ash finally answered, with a smile.

Flashback

"Yes!" 13 year old Ash boomed, looking up to see the rope swing beside the lake was finally free. He got up and raced over to it, not realising another person was also racing to it as well.

The pair, who both seemed to have tunnel vision, collided, as they were both a couple feet from the rope swing. "Aah!" Ash panicked, as he lost his balance and nearly fell over the edge, into the water.. but not before the person he'd ran into grabbed his hand and pulled him back away from the edge.
