Jays POV:

"Lily what the heck are you doing?" I asked watching my best friend try to stuff books and loose papers into her locker.

"Just....a little further....and.....in,"she said as she successfully stuffed everything into her locker and closed it.

Lily is my best friend, we've been friends since birth. Literally, we were born in the same hospital. Our mothers are best friends so you could imagine how happy she was to meet her best friends baby, I was two years old when I first saw her and I was the first person she ever smiled at. We instantly became best friends. She's really smart and is in honours class, she's also jumbling co - curricular activities for her college application so I barely get to see her.

"You up for lunch after school?" I asked hopefully.

"Sorry I can't today, after school I have chemistry lessons, then after that I have to get ready for volleyball practice, then I have to practice on my solo for choir, then I have to go to the retirement home then, I have to tutor......blah blah blah blah," I watched as her mouth moved not really listening to what she was saying. She does this like every week and doesn't get tired, where does all this energy come from? I already knew what she was going to say at the end.

Can I take a rain check.

".....can I take a rain check?" Ah there it is.

"You take all the time you need," I told her with a smile.

"Whenever you're free call, it's not like I'm doing anything important," she gave me a grateful smile.

The hallway was filled with students, noise, chatter, all kinds of people in their cliques the nerds, the gamers, the preps you know normal high school stuff.
Suddenly the hallway went dead silent -well that's new- every one looked as if a monster was way passing by. They all cleared the way as the person passed, I peered over the scared ninth graders to see the horrible scary monster.

It was a girl.

She was tall but not that tall and slung a backpack over her shoulder, head down as she walked. She wore black jeans, red sneakers and an oversized dark grey hoodie which covered her whole body I couldn't even see her hands, her hood was up I couldn't see her face or anything.

As she walked down the hallway, I heard people whispering and moving even further back so they won't touch her like she was a deadly virus or something. Wow this girl must be really bad news if everyone is afraid of her.

"Who's the girl in the hoodie?" I whispered to Lily trying not to be too loud.

"That's Evangelin Grey,"she whispered back. I know her she sits alone at the back in drama class, no one really notices that she's there.

" I heard that she's cursed with bad luck, when she was six she killed her parents. And at nine she pushed her brother off a bridge. Now she lives alone and if you get close to her bad things will happen to you."

"That's load of crap, it's just superstitious shit parents tell their kids to scare them into being good. There's nothing like bad luck."

"Jay I know you're a science geek or whatever and you don't believe in things like luck or bad luck, but this is actually serious. Something is seriously wrong with her." She hushed as the girl walked past us, I tried harder to look at her face when she turned and met my eyes. She quickly turned her face down as she pulled the hood lower and walked to the far end of the hallway where the broken lockers were. Apparently there were no lockers left for her when she began school so she had to use one of the old broken lockers far away from the good lockers, every body went back to their normal business as soon as she left.

"Oh shit!," Lily said as she looked at her watch, "I'm going to be late see you later Jay," and with that she bolted through the hallway with a tower of books in her arms. Once she left the bell for first period rang. As I grabbed my things ready to go I noticed the girl. She was removing paper taped to her locker, she got her things and left.

Now the hallway was empty and I was the only person still not in class. I quickly walked up to her locker to see what the papers were about. I picked up one and read 'go and die', the rest read 'killer', 'black cat', 'no one wants you here', 'you're not wanted', I dropped the papers as I walked away from her locker.

How could people do this to someone?

As I looked at her locker closely some one spray painted her locker and wrote 'killer, murder and devil just go hang yourself'. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, this was cruel and the worst part every one is too scared to help.

Why couldn't geography be an easy A, but noooooo we had to do research and draw maps.....ugh, even thinking about it is giving me a splitting headache. This is my last period free for today, I might as well do something productive.

I walked into the library, it was huge with more than 20 book shelves, the room was lit up with bright fluorescent, the air conditioning made the atmosphere cool and calm for reading, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop and it had this comfortable homey vibe.

I silently walked to the librarians table, in movies you'd see librarian as an old, rude, hag; but this one was the opposite. She was in her early forties, she was fairly tall with tanned skin and had hazel nut coloured eyes, her heart shaped face complimented her silky beautiful black hair, she'd usually braid her hair in fun braids but whenever she had a bad day - which was rarely- she'd tie her hair in a tight bun and she always had a happy aura. As I walked up to her she greeted me with a bright smile.

"Good day Mrs Olivia," I greeted chearfully reflecting her smile.

"Jay, I've told you a million times to call me Liv," I always remember but it's a little weird calling your elder by their nick name.

"Can you show me where the geography section, I swear one day I'll-" I stopped talking when I noticed Evangelin- y'know the supposedly cursed girl. She was pushing cart full of books while stacking them.
"I didn't know Evangelin worked here."

"No she doesn't work here," she said tiredly tucking a stray hair behind her ear, "she helps me around the library, but I never see her talk to anyone," she said with a sad smile.

"Maybe I can go talk to her," I piped up. I saw her eyes brighten once again and it came with a sly smile.
"Go get her tiger," she said as she pushed in Evangelins direction.

I hope this isn't going to be too awkward.
