My gaze flew from Jay, to the lady at the door then to my bandaged ankle and back to Jay. I was still shocked due to waking up in an unfamiliar place and the abrupt hug Jay gave me, he slowly stood up straightening his clothes as he walked towards the lady.
"Mom can I talk to you for a sec," Jay said, her gaze fell on me again with a smile. Jay let out a relieved breath and turn to me "Just sit tight, I'll be back soon", he said and they both disappeared from the room.
"Jay is mom back?" I heard a booming voice yell from the stairs. I turned to see a shirtless boy walking into the room.
"When did she- oh you're awake", he said smiling and walking up to me. I looked at him unsure of what to say, then I made the biggest mistake of looking at his bare torso. He had a tanned body and there was no way of not noticing his prominent six pack, I turned away from him trying to hide my red face.
Why did he have to be shirtless?
He had a smirk on his face, he stretched out his hand with a huge grin on his face.
"Hey I'm Stephen, Jays brother", I should have known he was Jays brother. They both have the same eye colour and share the same facial features, it's like looking at an older version of Jay. I shakily extended my hand and shook it without looking at him, I swear I'm redder than a tomato."I'm Evangelin...... E-Evangelin Grey", I quickly retrieved my hand praying for something or someone to make him leave. And as if my prayers were answered Jay walked in, he noticed my red face and looked at his brother understanding the situation.
"Stephen go put on a shirt", he ordered.
"Nah I think I'm just going to hang out here with my new pal Evangelin", he plopped on the seat next to me amusement all over his face as he flexed his muscles.
Did this guy derive joy seeing me red and flustered.
"You know I've heard a lot about you", Jay tensed hearing those words.
Wait........... does he talk about me at home?
"Stephen if you don't leave right now I'll tell mum about the one night stand with that blonde," I saw him visibly tense as he stood up and scurried out of the room. I couldn't supress the laughter erupting inside of me, Jay pulled out a brown bean bag chair at the corner of the room and sat opposite me.
"Black mail huh? And I thought you were the good guy", I teased.
"I'm am the good guy but sometimes he's a pain in the ass ", the same woman I saw earlier- I mean his mom- walked into the room with a warm smile. She looked a lot like Stephen but Jay didn't quite resemble her she looked aged to perfection but tiredness overshadowed her features.
I heard Jay clear his throat gaining my attention "Eva this is my mom Yasmin Collins, she's a doctor so I asked her if she could take a look at your ankle".
"Don't worry sweetie", she kneeled beside me "this wouldn't hurt a bit", I slowly nodded watching her take the bandage off. She'd gently pressed her fingers on some spots on my ankle asking if it hurt, I'd say no most times she asked. With a puff air she stood from her crouching position and smiled.
"Well good news, your ankle is okay you just have a minor sprain. You'll be okay in a few days just take it easy", she assured.
"Thank you Mrs Collins."
"You can call me Yasmin", she gave me her last smile before she left the room. I looked at Jay who was gazing at me with a smile, I snapped my fingers bringing him back to reality.
What was that all about?
"I want to get up."
"Oh should I help you?" He offered.
"No, I want to try by myself", I slowly gripped the arm rest as I carefully pushed myself up. Smiling triumphantly I tried to take some steps, my first three steps went well that is until my knees buckled and the ground came closer to me. I felt a pair of arms catch me and pull me up, I looked up to a pair of gorgeous chocolate brown eyes and the smile that took my breath away as Jay pulled to a standing position still supporting my weight. He held me tight so there was no space between us, I could see the light sparkle in his eyes, his pink lips and my breath hitched. I could see his face turn pink and the tip of his ears were red, there's no doubt I was in tomato mode.
Woohw.
The sound of someone clearing their throat made us jump apart me landing on the couch and Jay on the bean bag. Stephen stood at the door frame with crossed arms and a sly smirk.
"Well I see you two are having fun", he said landing on the space beside me with a little distance between us.
"It's not- I mean...... We just.....", I didn't have anything to say and it looked like Jay wasn't going to say anything anytime soon. I took in a deep breath and exhaled.
"I tried to walk but I wasn't strong enough so I fell but Jay caught me that's all", Jay look impressed with the way I handled this. Stephen looked at both of us with an amused face. I heard a loud rumble come from my tummy which made me turn even redder.
Universe why do you hate me so much?
"You up for breakfast?" Jay asked I gave him a curt nod as my answer.
"Come on lazy bones let's make break fast", with a groan Stephen pushed himself off the couch and trudged out of the room.
In minutes they came back with a huge stack of pancakes, a jug of juice and a bottle of syrup. We spent the rest of the morning munching on pancakes and talking, we talked about useless things, important things, Stephen would say something embarrassing about Jay which would make them fight and I had to be the referee to stop them, I looked at the time it was almost four o'clock."I have to get going."
"Oh yeah your parents maybe worried sick."
"............."
"Oh.... um, I'll drive you home", with that he helped me walked to his mom's car. I wanted to thank Yasmin for her help but they told me she was deep in dream land, so I said my goodbyes to Stephen gave Jay the directions to my house and we drove off.
I watched as the buildings sped past us in a blur, there was no sound only the sound of the radio echoed in the car as we sat in awkward silence.
"I don't want to go home yet".
"Okay so what do you want to do?" I pondered on his question a little while before I answered.
"I want to talk."
"About what?"
I shrugged "Anything and everything, we don't really know much about each other and friends need to know things about each other...... We are friends right? "
"If I wasn't your friend would I have carried you to my house, treated your ankle, try to revive you and almost die of worry?" His words brought a giant smile to my face.
It's been long since I had a friend.
"So I want to know the real Jason Herbert Collins", he scowled at the mention of his middle name. Apparently Stephen let the cat out of the bag concerning Jays middle name.
"Okay so how do we start?"
"Let's start simple", I liked this. Just talking to someone, I don't care who it is or what we're talking about, as far as their willing to listen it's good enough for me. And when it's someone you care about it's a whole lot better.
"What's your favourite colour?"
