For all of you who want to know some of the songs that inspired this story, this is for you. Videos for music are conveniently located beneath the song's title.
Be The One-The Fray: This is the song that truly described Luke's and Ilania's relationship, at least from Luke's perspective. I was listening to my playlist while writing Secret Notes, and I went "THIS IS THE SONG I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!" I got funny looks for that one from my fellow classmates, but this is the song Luke would have written for Ilania if they lived in a different world.
Breathe-Superchick: I felt that this is a desperate plea. It was the month when Ilania wasn't sure what had happened to Luke, but it is also the times after when she wanted to give up, only to tell herself to keep breathing.
Still Here-Superchick: This is Meara's song at the end when she is still living just for Lucia. She's trying to figure out why she is the only one of the family still alive, and how to combat the guilt she is carrying on her shoulders.
Right Here-Ashes Remain: This is the song that I really should have put on Truth when Ilania had the dream about Luke, but it fit the ending really well too. It was just too hard to decide because it fit multiple chapters.
I Won't Run Away-Ashes Remain: I feel like this song underscores Ilania's determination to see the rebellion through to the end even though she knew that she was going to likely die. I also believe that it demonstrates a bit of how she felt losing Luke.
Without You-Ashes Remain: We're back to Ilania and Meara. They both lost people they loved, and they don't always understand why. However, they are hoping that there's a chance for all those people who remain.
A Night To Remember-Shonlock: This beautiful song would be one that I feel applies not only to Ilania's and Luke's relationship or even Meara's and Matthew's. I feel like parts of this could be how every member of the Igniters felt when they decided to change Cineres forever.
You Are Loved-Stars Go Dim: This song talks about stepping out and being willing to not fit in the world's mold. Every single person in this book had the choice to stand up and say that the Laws weren't right and that Enforcement had too much power. However, in the end, it took only six people to make the difference.
