The outdated tech, her miscommunication with Cisco and Caitlin, no one having a clue on who both her mother and the Reverse Flash were—it suddenly made sense to Ara, she was in the past. A past where her mother hadn't moved to Central City. A past where the Reverse Flash wasn't wrecking havoc onto Central City. A past where metahumans were outcasted by society because they were dangerous and different.

"So tell us Ara Spivot," Doctor Wells says as Ara leans against the railing of the main table. "How exactly did you get here?"

Ara stares at the man. Just like Cisco said, none of her info was in the database and that could easily be explained—she wasn't born, yet. But how did he know her name? The answer was simple, Eobard Thawne was also from the future and Ara wasn't in a timeline where The Flash had defeated him, a timeline where Eddie Thawne didn't kill himself to save the world. All these bits and pieces of information confused Ara and it would be much more of a confusion if she decides to tell it to the three people who stood in front of her; despite their intellect, no one could properly understand the future.

"Not much of a talker, aren't you?" Wells says, rolling towards her. Ara looks down at him, keeping her mouth shut. She knew how much evil Thawne had downed onto the people of Central City and she knew how information like this could prove of much more worth to an evil meta than it could to a regular person. She knew more about Wells—and Thawne— more than anyone else in this timeline, even Wells himself.

"I don't talk to strangers, especially ones I don't trust." Ara says, trying to keep her voice indignant but failing to hide the confusion and intimidation that lined its edges. Wells easily identifies her fear but doesn't choose to use it against her, yet.

"You can trust us, Ara." Caitlin says, innocence and integrity lining her voice. She looked the same as she was 30 years from now. The same kind smile, the same eagerness in her eyes, the same expression that spelled "I really want to help people" that marks her face; the only difference between her and her future self being the wrinkles that etched her face and the gray that streaked her hair in obscure locations—indications of her aging. Ara wondered if Caitlin realized or unlocked her full potential—a metahuman who had full control over the element of ice but had a heart that proved otherwise; she had coined the identity of Killer Frost, an evil villain who had been changed for the better. One look at Caitlin's face assures Ara that Caitlin had no clue about her true identity and Ara wonders if that was a good thing or not. One thing's for sure, she could trust her, and Cisco.

"Just tell us," Cisco says, pointing at the armbands that laid on the table. "What are those?" He says the last line in a weird tone and grins cheekily, as if he had just heard a joke. Caitlin and Wells roll their eyes at him while Ara raises her eyebrows, not quite sure if she had caught the joke. But much to Ara's satisfaction, Cisco was the same jokester as he will be in the future. Unfortunately, he didn't recognise his own power either—the power to vibe and see events that will occur in the future.

Ara glances at the armbands, trying to hide her flinch. "Armbands like those are one of the biggest fashion statements nowadays." An easy lie. She knew their real purpose —not a fashion statement but one of the greatest weapons in history. Made of carbonised titanium and alien material, those armbands had the ability to allow the wearer to absorb certain properties of an object. Recently, Ara had been able to tweak the gadget to allow her to absorb powers...to become a temporary metahuman.

The three of them could easily read through her lie. Ara reaches out to grab the weapon but Wells beats her to it. "You, my friend, are a bad liar. Now tell us, really, what are these armbands for?"

Ara rolls her eyes, a futile attempt to regain her audacity. "And why should I do that, Wells?"

"I can see right through you Spivot. You keep retorting to seem brave, strong even. But, really, you're scared out of your own wit. You're stuck in a timeline that you don't belong in and that makes you terrified." Wells says, disgust etching his voice.

"That makes us two, doesn't it?" Ara scoffs. She couldn't help but notice the way Wells shifted in his seat, probably in shock or fear. But his eyes said otherwise. Caitlin and Cisco stare at her dumbfounded, clearly not understanding the words that just came out of Ara's mouth.

He holds up the armbands. "The only thing that's keeping you from bawling your eyes out is the importance of these armbands. And judging by the way your eye is twitching, these armbands are more than just a fashion statement; they're your key out of this timeline. So Ara," He says, glaring at her. "What are these armbands for?"

Ara had backed herself into a corner, yet the expression on her face remains placid.

"They have powers, Wells." Ara says, stretching her arms out. "They have powers that are much too advanced for your, or anyone else this current timeline's, brain to comprehend. They have mechanically advanced properties, properties that could change the world." As if on cue, the armbands melt in Wells' hands. They become a liquid state and travel across the floor and up Ara's arms. Once they reach her wrist, the armbands solidify, returning to their original state.

"What the heck," Cisco says, his mouth agape as he and Caitlin stare at Ara in shock. Like she had said, no one could comprehend the advanced technology and components that forged into the weapon that stood in front of them.

"Thank you for the brilliant pep talk," Ara says, smiling. She lifts herself off of the railing and turns towards the door. "Now I must leave to look for my mother." Ara takes small, hurried steps towards the exit, positively sure that neither of the three could stop her from leaving the compound.

She turns around and faces no one in particular, "And say hi to The Flash for me, he'd really appreciate my visit."

to clarify the armbands' powers:

Ok so these armbands have the power to absorb certain properties of any material or solvent, so that means basically anyone and anything. For example, Ara will hold a metal pipe and using the armbands, she can allow her body to inhabit the properties of metal or, in other words, to make her body metal. And she can use them to absorb a metahuman's powers.

author's note:

just another intro/clarification chapter... hope you liked it though! the next chapter will have more "action" and we will finally get a glimpse of what Ara could really do.
