JILBF NO. 2
Prologue
"I'm sorry Sirius."
The words sting, like knives scraping down his body.
"Don't do this."
He looks down at the face of his younger brother, almost a spitting image of himself. His black hair falls in messy tangles round his face, tear tracks glistening on his cheeks.
"You can't leave."
The words dig deeper every time. How does a fifteen year old boy look so vulnerable and small?
"Sirius. I need you. Please."
Sirius steps forward, wrapping his brother in a tight hug.
"I'm sorry," he whispers. "I'm so, so sorry."
"You don't have to do this." Regulus speaks into his brother's shirt, voice thick with tears. Sirius steps back, determined not to let his own tears spill.
"I have to. I can't live like this anymore." The desperation in his voice kills a small part of Regulus. The two brothers hold each other's gaze for a moment, and that's all they are. Not enemies, not traitors. Brothers.
"I love you, Regulus."
And he's gone. Vanished like a puff of smoke, distant and miserable memories the only sign that Sirius Black had ever called this place home.
