I scanned the forest. This was my first time on duty with the new implant. I found over a dozen life readings of humanoid creatures.
They were watching us.
The Visitors knew that we were a prominent settlement. And they wanted to know our secrets.
"Kill any that come." I said. "They're watching us."
Ren didn't complain. I showed him the difference between us and them and he understood.
I pulled back the string on my bow. I could see them coming closer. I wasn't going to let any of them inside.
A picture appeared on the screen in my eye. I was surprised. I didn't put the picture up. "Ren," I said quietly. "Do you see that too?"
He nodded. "Yea, I see it."
The picture turned into a video. I watched as Ansel examined the body of the little girl, the Visitor. I closed my eyes but the video was still there. I was being forced to watch my best friend cut open and examine one of my kills. The full autopsy was showed.
I looked at Ren. He looked sick. "That was,"
I shook my head. "They're just trying to get at us." I said. "That was a Visitor, not a human. Don't forget that."
