I was sitting in my hideout looking for something moving in the forest. I was on lookout duty due to my military background. I heard a branch pop, and my head snapped to the location. My eyes were analyzing the scene faster than humanly possible, but that was due to the hardware that I'd had implanted.
There was a little girl looking at me with terrified eyes. Her face was dirty. She had been lost for a while. I scanned her body. Her heart rate appeared on the screen in my eyes. It was slow. She was scared yet her heart told a different story.
"Let's take her in." Ren said next to me.
I shook my head. He didn't know what I knew. He didn't know that she was one of the Visitors.
Ren looked at me in disbelief. "Val, she's a little girl."
"She's one of them." I said with venom.
Ren looked at the girl. He shook his head. "There's no way."
I was annoyed. "Go back to camp, Ren." I said. "I'll deal with this."
"No."
I glared at him. "Go back." My voice was firm.
Ren stood up and walked away.
The little girl stared at me. She was studying me. I took out my bow and an arrow. I placed the arrow in the bow and pulled back the string. I aimed towards the heart and let go.
