Ren was already in the lookout when I arrived. He was still angry. I could tell from behind. I took my place and looked around. Everything was the same.
I closed my eyes for a moment. I went through all of the programming in my head. I only kept it on when I was on duty. I hated being able to analyze everything.
I opened my eyes to see the Aperture expand and contract. The hardware started analyzing immediately, taking measures of everything. Something was happening, and it was bad.
"Do you see that?" I asked quietly.
"Yea," Ren answered quietly.
I was silent.
"What's happening?"
I said nothing for a moment as the analyzation finished. "I have no idea."
The Aperture grew larger over the next half of the day. Nothing else had happened, but nothing was scary. Ren and I finished duty. We talked only when we thought we saw something, but we had seen nothing. When we were back inside the wall, we went our separate ways.
I opened the door to the morgue and walked in. Ansel looked at me confused. "Val, you can't be in here." He said quickly.
"Did you see it?" I asked frantically.
"See what?"
"The Aperture, it's getting bigger."
His face dropped. "Did anything happen?"
I shook my head. "Something's coming though, and it's gonna change everything."
