"Whenever I pad past other cats, they glance at me. I'm used to it. They look away when I return their gaze. Few wonder how I survive alone. I used to be independent, but now I am dependent. I used to be one of the fastest cats in the wild. I gave up that life for a reason. I might not be the best cat, but I was told I had the biggest heart."
----------------------------------------------Mist lightly put her paw down and stepped forward. Her eyes were focused on a mouse nibbling on a nut. Her tail twitched. She carefully stepped forward again. wiggling her hindquarters, she leaped. The mouse tried to dash away, but Mist had landed squarely on it. Quickly she delivered a killing bite and it went limp. The overpowering scent of mouse flooded her jaws.
I haven't eaten all day! She thought. She crouched down and took a bite. While eating, she was still alert. Other predators could smell the prey and want it. Mist took another bite. The fresh-kill wasn't going to completely fill her, but she could hunt some more.
Mist padded quietly in the forest. She was searching for prey. A scent like crow-food immediately bit her nose. Looking forward, she saw a thunderpath. She scrunched her nose at the scent. She was about to walk away, but then she saw another cat.
Mist cautiously walked towards him. If he was dangerous, she didn't want to get into a fight. She put a paw on the thunderpath. Mist was about to take another step forward when the thunderpath was vibrating. She glanced to the right and saw a monster on its way. Her gaze shot towards the tom. He was sniffing crow-food, on the thunderpath. The monster was getting closer.
"Watch out!" Mist screeched, launching forward. The tom looked up to see her in the air. Mist briefly saw surprise in his gaze.
Mist knocked into the tom, with a shriek as the monster bit her. It didn't seem to care, it just kept on running forward. She hit the ground, greatly aware of the pain in her leg. She clenched her teeth.
The tom stood up and gazed at her in horror. A few seconds later, he woke from his daydream and ran to her.
"A-Are you ok?!" He said, clearly in shock.
"N-no..." Was all she could manage to say. Her eyes began to close as she began to gain unconsciousness. In the fading light, she could see the tom's eyes widen. He began to wail, loudly.
The last thing Mist remembered was pain.---------
"Cloudberry, she's waking up!" Called a tom. Everything was completely dark. Mist realized her eyes were closed.
"Thank StarClan!" Somewhere said a she-cat.
Mist blinked open her eyes. Where was she? What was starclan? Bright rays from the sun flooded into her vision. She squinted. In front of her was the tom from the thunderpath!
When her eyes were used to the light, she fully opened them. She saw his eyes were glittered with worry. Relief replaced worry when she looked at him. Mist heard another cat pad closer.
"See, Leafcloud? I told you she wouldn't die." Said the cat apparently called Cloudberry. Such weird names... Mist thought.
Mist turned her head to see a white cat with Amber eyes and fluffy fur sniffing her back leg. Mist looked in horror at it. It was bent at an awkward angle, with blood and webs spread over it. She felt like wailing like a lost kit.
When she tried moving it, she gasped with pain. The white she-cat clearly noticed.
"Don't move it. Your leg must stay still to heal properly." She said.
"I-I'm so sorry! This is all my fault! If I had noticed you this would've never happened!" Wailed Leafcloud. Mist saw distress in his gaze.
A small cat with brown fur and green eyes ran in. "Please don't tell me she died! Did I use the wrong herbs?!" He asked anxiously.
