Elsie Mae's POV
When I closed the door, I slid against it and sighed happily. Today couldn't have gotten any better although I do wish Theodosia and Ambrose stayed. I walked into the kitchen to see my parents sitting at the table discussing something.
"Oh, I'm sorry is this a bad time?" I asked as I turned to head to my room.
"Of course not Elsie Mae. We are just discussing some wedding plans come join us." Alexander said. I nodded and sat down across from my parents. Instead of them doing more planning, they decided to cook dinner and have us worry about it tomorrow. Well, looks like I'm spending tomorrow with my parents. I smiled as I got up from the table and asked if there was anything I could do to help with supper. John told me to set the table. I did what I was told them asked them what else needs to be done. They told me I didn't have to do anything but I insisted. After everything they have done for me, the least I could do was help them. We laughed and talked as we prepared the food. I couldn't ask for a better life. Sure it was alright at the orphanage and spending all of my time with the kids, but now actually belonging somewhere with people that love me makes me so happy. A tear slipped from my eye.
"Elsie, sweetie are you okay?" John stopped cooking and came over and hugged me. When his arms wrapped around me I started sobbing into his chest.
"Shhh, it's okay. What's wrong?" He began stroking my hair. Alexander, hearing my sobs ran over to me as well and the three of us went to the sitting room and sat on the couch.
After I calmed down a little bit, John asked again what was the matter.
"I've- I've n-never been s-so ha-happy in my l-life." I said breaking into loud sobs again. I hugged both of my fathers tightly. They smiled when I said these words to them.
"When we were adopting, we immediately knew you were the child of our dreams." Alexander said as we went back to the kitchen to finish supper. The smile on my face could not be controlled. As soon as supper was ready, the three of us sat around the table. I continued smiling because I still couldn't believe everything that has happened within the past week. I was adopted by two people who I know will be my best friends for the rest of my life as well as being my guardians, and I have also met three amazing teenagers that will never leave my side and will help me through it all.
Instead of going straight to bed like I usually do, I helped my parents clean the kitchen. It was beginning to get dark so I began to light candles around the house to bring some light in. Then I went back to the kitchen and helped with the dishes. After that, I went to the comfort of my new bedroom and changed into my nightgown. Then I crawled into bed and I pulled out a diary that Alexander gave to me. I turned to the first blank page and started writing about my day. When I was done, almost as if it was on cue, my parents walked in to tuck me in. They came on either side of my bed. I sat up and hugged both of them tightly. These two have changed my life. They both kissed my head and were leaving my room until Alexander turned around and said "We love you Elsie Mae. Everything we said about adopting you is true. We knew you were the one we wanted to be our daughter the first second we looked at you."
"I love you both so much." I answered yawning. Alexander took my candle off of the bedside table then the two of them left the room leaving me alone in the dark.
