The Unfinished Song

I fell from Holy Moses mountain,

I heard Steven's voice drift up the stairs and I walked down slowly, holding on the railing.


He was at the table, scribbling away, singing as he wrote, not noticing me watching him. I took advantage of the situation and sat on the step, watching him intrigued.


Never gave me too much room

After that, Steven just hummed along and I watched him work.


And then the dogs saw me and I was jumped on by two adorable fur balls.


"Ah, guys! Yes, hello, good afternoon to you too!" I laughed as they licked my face "enough!"


The dogs hopped down when Steven walked over, smirking and shaking his head "were you eavesdropping?"


"What? Me? No! Never!" I laughed as I stood up.


"Mhm." Steven laughed back as I walked to him.


"Okay, maybe a little bit." I held up my hand, keeping my thumb and pointer barely apart "I like the song."


"I hoped you would. It's not done though, so no more listening in. It's a surprise."


"Alright, fine." I said "but it's not much of a surprise is it?"


"It's not just the song" Steven responded "you'll see when it's done."


I nodded "right, right, fine" I said and sat at the table


"You going to the hospital?" Steven asked, sitting across from me.


"Nah, the doctors seems to be getting annoyed by my interrogations. I'll give them a break." I said with a shrug.


"You wanna have lunch with me and the guys?" Steven offered.


"Hell yeah!" I said "when?"


"In like an hour."


"Alright, I'll get ready."

"This is a nice place!" I noted as the six of us sat around a booth


"Oh, yeah, we love it here" Joey said as he sipped a glass of water in front of him.


"So cool" I said and leaned against Steven.


We ordered appetizers and chatted some when I got a headache. Perfect. I rubbed my temples and took a large sip of water.


"You okay?" Tom asked me


"Hm? Yeah, little headache." I said and shrugged


"You wanna go home?" Steven asked, playing with my hair.


"No, I'm fine. Really." I said and waved away his concerns. "Let's just order lunch." I added, and we did just that.


An hour or so later, we were at Tom's house and he gave me an Advil which didn't really help, but I pretended it did.


We were just watching a movie and I felt so... Sick.


"Shit." I yelped and hopped off the couch "bathroom?"


Tom got up, so did the others, and led me to the bathroom. I pushed the door open and dropped to my knees, puking in the toliet. My cheeks turned red in embarrassment, but they paled when I threw up again.


Steven stood behind be and held my hair, rubbing my back. I glanced at Tom in the corner of my eye between my vomiting.


"Oh God, I'm sorry." I said and coughed, bringing my head closer to the toliet "I swear I was feeling fine before."


"It's okay" Tom said as Joe left "It was probably something you ate"


I nodded when Joe came back with a glass of water. "Drink" he said and I took it, gulping it down as fast as I could "slow down" I listened and finished the rest at a better pace.


"Come on, I'll take you home" Steven said as he stood me up


"No, no, I'm okay." I tried


"No, Amy, really. Come in, just rest. It's fine." Steven said and turned around "I'll call you guys later.


Once we left the house, I stares at my feet "I'm sorry."


"Don't be, it happens." Steven said "are you feeling better?"


"A little."


"Okay. When we get home just sleep."


I nodded in agreement, and stayed silent the whole way home and on the way to bed, not knowing what was wrong and not liking it.


I fell asleep feeling awful in more ways than one.
