The next morning I woke up as the sun was streaming through the windows. I rolled over and noticed the spot where Rob was, was empty. I sat up and stretched blushing as I remembered the events of last night. I smiled to myself as I walked into the bathroom before I headed downstairs. As I turned the corner into the kitchen I saw Rob on the phone. I quietly listened to who he was talking to.
" dude, of course I'll be a part of it. I wouldn't have it any other way. You have been my best friend since I could remember. I couldn't miss your big day." Rob said into his cell. I knew exactly who he was talking to. He turned around and smiled as he saw me still in his shirt. I hugged him around the waist as I could hear my brother, Jay, talking about the wedding. Jay and Meredith were getting married over Christmas. I was one of her bridesmaids. Meredith doesn't have sisters, she is an only child, so she asked if I would be there for her. Her maid of honor Nichole and I were her only two attendants.
" Jay, man I can't wait for your wedding man. Do I get to plan your bachelor party or is that up to Tim?" Rob asked. I knew Tim, Jay's college friend was his best man. I rolled my eyes and chuckled a little too loud at the bachelor party comment. I quickly covered my mouth. Especially when Jay made a comment about Rob having his " fling here".
" Nah dude, I don't think it's a fling. She's pretty special" Rob said as he squeezed my sides. I buried my face into him as he ended the call.
" Rob, you almost gave me away!" I yelled with a smile.
" actually sweetheart, you almost gave yourself away with that giggle of yours. You are lucky your brother is oblivious at the moment. But come on we can't hide from everyone forever."
" I plan on not saying anything for a long time. Especially since I don't exactly know what we are quite yet" I shrugged.
" what do you mean?" Rob asked looking down at me.
" Rob, it's obvious. I don't want to be some " fling" of yours. With me you are either all in or not in at all. I can't be just someone's fuck buddy" I said as I pulled away from him and headed up to his room to gather my things. He followed me up there quickly.
" Sammy, that's not what I want at all. It's just complicated."
" how the hell is this complicated Rob? Let me make this clear, I will not be your side chick that you call on just because you need a release or whatever. I can't handle that." I said sitting on his bed with my head in my hands. Tears were threatening to fall. I whispered almost inaudibly " this was such a mistake".
" Sam, this was not a mistake. I like you. I just worry about my job. This has nothing to do with you. Being in the NFL is very demanding. Especially during the season. I am hardly here. I have 5am lifting, then practice, scrimmage, workouts and by the time I get home it's midnight. That doesn't even touch on away games or weekends when we have a home game. I also have commitments to sponsors. I want this Sam. More than you ever know. I just want to make sure I have the time for you before I can commit." He explained. It didn't help any of my feelings as tears were now pouring from my eyes.
" whatever Rob. If you can't see that I have a high demand job too, you are blind. But here I am willing to commit and work through this. So what if you come home at midnight? I will be here waiting for you or you could come to my apartment." I was getting angry. " but never mind what I want. When you decide you have time for me let me know." I said as I left his room and walked out of the house.
" Sam wait, how the hell are you getting home? Let me at least drive you" he shouted from the front door. I raised my phone in the air and called out " I called a cab. I'm no longer taking up your time Rob." And with that I left. I walked to the end of his street where there was a cab waiting for me to take me home.
