The wedding came up a lot faster than I had expected. I was still taking extra shifts at work so that I didn't feel guilty taking my weeks vacation after Christmas. Jay and Meredith were getting married on December 28th but we were apparently spending every day except Christmas with the bridal party. Which meant I had to put on a fake smile around Rob. He hasn't contacted me since I left the restaurant after dress shopping. It was kind of a relief. I had decided I wasn't going to date anyone for a while so I didn't have a "plus 1" at the wedding.
After my shift was over on Christmas Eve morning ( I worked the overnight 7pm on the 23 until 7am on the 24th) I came back to my apartment and packed my bags before I took a nice long needed nap. It was kind of a long drive so I needed my rest. I made sure to put my dress next to the front door so I wouldn't forget it. I was actually excited to wear it as I found it sexy.
After my nap I loaded everything in my car and took off for my childhood hometown. I received a text message as I stopped for gas in Albany.
Can we just be friends. Just for this weekend? I want this week to be fun and it won't be if you hate me.
Of course it was Rob. I guess I will just be civil with him and pretend nothing happened.
Rob I don't hate you. I'm just disappointed. This will be a fun week. I will be nice and forget anything ever happened between us.
After I replied I got back into my car with snacks of course and before I pulled out of the gas station he texted me again.
Sammy, I can't forget. You are an amazing woman and I can't get you off my mind.
I ignored his text as I left for home. How can he say that? He broke me that day and he doesn't have the decency to just move on. Of course I felt the same. I couldn't get him off my mind either. I wish things would have worked out. I just can't be someone side chick they have only when they have time for them.
I pulled into the driveway of my moms house. She was sitting on the front porch swing reading a book when I parked next to her Tahoe. She then put her book down and walked over to me.
"Oh Samantha! It's so good to see you baby girl!" My mom hugged me. " Jay and Meredith are inside. I'm just waiting on dinner in the oven if you are hungry." Leave it to mom to make sure she feeds us.
" sounds good mama. I will put my stuff in my room and help get dinner finished." I said as mom led me in the house. I set my suitcase and my dress in my room. We were only going to be here tonight for Christmas Eve which was a Wednesday and tomorrow night after Christmas. Then we were headed into Buffalo for the wedding. Meredith and Jay reserved the Westin Hotel downtown buffalo for the bridal party. They wedding was going to be held at the Avanti Mansion about 25 minutes away.
I walked passed the kitchen and could smell the turkey mom had in the oven. It was our families tradition to have a big Christmas Eve dinner, go to the Christmas Eve church service, get our Christmas pjs on (which all match) and watch a Christmas movie before bed. Mom had already put the Christmas pjs for the evening in our room. It was footie pajamas this year. I can't imagine the pictures tonight. I went to help in the kitchen and mom had me set the table. I grabbed four plates and mom stopped me.
" Sammy we are having a guest tonight. Please put five table settings in the dining room." She mentioned.
" oh who is joining us this year mama?" I asked out of curiosity.
