Married To A Cheater
October 16
The next morning I woke up to the sun shining, the complete opposite of what I was feeling. I was dreading having to call my lawyer and be out and about all day when all I really wanted to do was stay home and do nothing. I sluggishly got out bed and took a hot shower before getting dressed and calling my lawyer to set a meeting time. For the next three hours I did chores around the house, had lunch and slept before it was time to leave.
When I pulled up to the office I sat in the car for a moment. Suddenly doubting my decision to divorce her. She only cheated on me, it's not as if she murdered someone. Suddenly my phone rang and I picked it up without checking the Caller ID.
"Luke, listen, I know I messed up but I think that we should just start over okay. I miss you and I really wish I could take it back. I'm so sorry-"
As she talked I felt my anger increase and my hesitation fade away.
"No, You're only sorry you got caught and I'm damn sure that you'd do it again if you got the chance."
"No, baby I wouldn't, I promise. I love you and I'm sorry."
"No, you love the thought of me. A person that will be there for you, get you anything you want when you want. Listen to you complain about shit that I honestly don't care about. I'm sick of it Dayla. You did nothing for or to me and it's not fair. It wasn't a fair relationship because you never tried. You never made an effort to be a good wife and it bit you in the ass in the end."
"But-"
"But nothing dammit! I'm so angry with you right now! And forget the fact that you cheated on me, that kid was underage Day! You could go to jail! And let me ask you a question. Was it really worth it? Cheating on me with a fcking seventeen year old kid!?"
"N-no."
"Don't play innocent dammit! You were grown enough to cheat and lie about it and try to hide it so you can talk to me straight!"
"I don't know why I did it Luke! I just did and I'm sorry! I can't take it back and if I could I-I would! I didn't mean to hurt you and I'm sorry! Can't you just forget about it!? I want you back!"
"No, you can't have me back because honestly you don't deserve me. You treated me like shit and I'm tired of it. Don't call me again because I'm not going to pick up."
I hung up then, not wanting to hear her excuses any longer and made my way towards the offices confidently. I only had to wait five minutes before I was able to go inside my lawyers office.
"What seems to be the problem Mr. Piles?"
"I want a divorce."
He chuckled.
"Are you sure about that? Divorcing takes a lot of time and money, usually double, when the divorce isn't wanted by both people involved."
"I don't care. Money isn't a problem. I just want a divorce."
"Okay, let's get started then."
The next couple of hours were consumed with paper work, phone calls and Luke was sure he signed his name over fifty times. When it came time for him to leave he left the office smiling and holding a large mamilla envelope, planning on mailing it to Dayla's parents house as soon as possible.
Luke pulled up to his house and parked his car, in the best mood he had been in since yesterday's issue. He unlocked the front door and stopped in his tracks.
"Dayla...why are you here?"
"I live here silly. Now let me take your jacket- how was work?"
He stood there stunned as Dayla took his jacked and hung it up in the hall closer before taking the envelope and putting it on the hall table.
