The rest of the questions were harder. My height, my weight... things I'd never even thought about. I had to sign a few things with my new name, Hailey, and list my conflicts with the eight-week schedule.

Guess what? I didn't have a single one.

I felt awful having to leave nearly half of it blank. Things like phone number, address, email (I didn't even know what that was), theatre experience... It made me so sad to think that almost everyone here probably knew what they were doing.

I became stumped on one of the last questions. "Which roles, if any, would you prefer?"

Well, this was actually somewhat easy. I knew all the characters and have adored Cosette ever since I picked up the book.

But was that even realistic? I couldn't sing. I'm not sure if I could act or not, and dancing looked easy, but who knew if it actually was? Would they ever even think about giving me a role, even if just in the ensemble?

I supposed it was worth a shot. I wrote "Cosette."

Nosy Natalee saw what I wrote. "You're too young to be Cosette. She's, like, 16. You're, what, six?"

"I'm EIGHT," I retorted. "Besides, in the book it says she's nine at the beginning."

"Oh, you mean YOUNG Cosette. COMMON mistake." she said. I sensed a bit of sarcasm. The way she said "common" made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I thought it was weird that they'd have two different people play Cosette; though I had been wondering how they perform more than once if the actress who got Cosette had to grow up.

But just in case it made a difference, I added "Young" before "Cosette."

I finished up the last page (which was only about 20% blank), and at exactly noon, I heard the doors bang shut and saw a man up on the stage with a little black thing in his hand. He held it up to his mouth.

A/N

Yes, I know, it's short. Plenty of lengthy chapters to come in the near future ;)
