Happy epilogue!!
------------------
The first rehearsal, once again.
I walked in thirty minutes early and scanned the room for anyone I knew. I recognized a few people who I hadn't really gotten to know, but this was easily half the size of the Les Miserables cast had been.
I was handed a script and flipped through it. It turned out Brigitta was a huge role! I had easily twenty lines and a few one-line solos in songs. It seemed like so much fun!
The door to the room opened, and looked to see Natalee walking in.
My heart dropped. Of course she was in it, too.
I looked down and pretended to be reading my script so she wouldn't notice me, but she already had.
She sat down right next to me.
"Hi," she said timidly.
I didn't look up. "Hi?"
"You-you were great as Young Cosette. I saw it," Natalee was speaking quietly for the first time in her life. I looked up.
"Th-thanks. You were too," I told her honestly. Natalee smiled a little.
We were silent for a minute. "So, um, what role did you get? In this show?" Natalee asked me.
"Brigitta. You?"
"Louisa! We're sisters!" Natalee laughed. I laughed with her. "You know, Carter got Kurt."
"He did?" I asked incredulously.
"Yeah, I thought you'd like to know," Suddenly, Natalee grew serious. "Hey, look, I'm sorry."
"For what?" I asked.
"Well, you know... being mean to you. In Les Mis. I judged you on what you looked like, not how talented you were. And I told you that, that you couldn't sing and stuff..."
"Well, at the time, you were right," I teased.
Natalee laughed nervously. There was a pause.
"Friends?" I asked, offering my hand for her to shake.
She shook it as a small smile formed on her face. "Friends."
