The tree I had slept under had plenty of low branches. I climbed to the very center of the tree in ten seconds flat. I got comfortable on a branch and swung my legs back and forth, checking out the view. My toe collided with something hard.

Taking a second to breathe and get over the pain, I looked to see what I'd kicked.

What luck I have.

I was in an apple tree!

I didn't hesitate. I looked up and saw one apple. I grabbed it. I did a full three-sixty on my branch and found three more. I wolfed one down, though it was slightly overripe. I have an immune system of steel; I never get sick.

I ate another one, then about half of a third, when I decided I was full. I dropped an apple and a half on the ground under the tree, to save for later.

I relaxed for about ten minutes when something flew by and made me jump.

It was a page of a newspaper, now caught in the branches of my tree.

My face scrunched in curiosity, I reached for it (nearly falling out of the tree in the process).

BROADWAY TO HOLD OPEN AUDITIONS FOR THE REVIVAL OF THE HIT MUSICAL LES MISERABLES!

I took a quadruple-take. I'd just finished that book! I'd cried four times; I'd loved it so much!

I kept reading:

"Auditions to be held December 3rd from 12-7pm, December 4th from 1-8pm, and December 5 from 12-7pm. Auditioners must be present all hours on one of these dates to be considered for a role. You will be asked to sing a specific line from the show, so nothing other than a headshot and resume should you come prepared with. Good luck to all!"

Wow.

They're going to make my favorite book into a musical!

I reread the headline. REVIVAL, it said.

Wait. It's BEEN a musical and I didn't know about it?!

...wait.

OPEN auditions...

The note from Hailey, already worn and crumpled, made its way into  my hand again.

Shine.

It's not like I had plans on those days anyway.

Time to be the next Annie.
