Chapter 14: Making It Official With Piper Scott-Mayes-Smith.

(&) Aria's Point Of View (&) – Wednesday 28th September 2033.

"We are at this point again in the year, where we dust off the plastic dolls and charge them up. Making sure they are ready for you lot to endure. If you haven't guessed it yet, you will be getting plastic dolls to look after for the next two weeks. Many of you know that we only do this with the Health and Social groups but we have been speaking about it with the head teacher and other schools in the UK and we believe that we should give you lot a chance to do the baby project." My Head of year informs us, reading from the PowerPoint from her laptop. Cue the groans from everyone.

I pick my head up from my laptop (as I was taking notes about exam dates just), scanning the room, trying to identify everyone's reaction from what our teacher just said. Half of the room are sporting blank stares and only a small number of them are groaning which is a bad sign I believe. I think the people who are groaning already know what to expect from this project as they have probably heard some information from other students who have participated in the project before.

"So the project will start today and it will last for two weeks. When we have done this project beforehand, it only lasted for a couple of days and it was with the health and social group. However, we decided to actually give you guys a challenge so hence why we have done this project for a longer period of time. It will last from Wednesday 28th of September which is todays date and finish on Wednesday 12th October 2033. Don't worry, we was going to do the project for a whole month however, we changed our mind due to the fact that we need to give you guys a break and you probably already hate us as we extended the project. You will be in groups of two however, so I expect you lot to make that decision for yourself. Also the answer to some of your questions is 'yes' you do have to do this project as this will be good for this year and you will learn some responsibility and how to take care of a baby. Adding onto this, this is also a new program that other schools are mixing into their circulation as well; in hopes that teen pregnancy can go down as its quite a high percentage in the UK." He informs everyone and then everyone starts to whisper amongst themselves about the project and who they will pair up with.

Turning my head around to meet my friends gazes, I whisper "who you going to be with?" I ask them. Rachel points to Allie but then Allie shakes her head, Rachel frowns and raises her eyebrows at Allie.

Allie covers Rachel's ear and whispers quite loudly, "because Aria will be by herself. We can decide later on who with go with who." She explains and I nod my head in response.

"After this assembly we will go round and give you lot a doll. We have enough for two each so as I said before, I expect you lot to know who you are going to pair with after. Here is some rules, you will be graded and you lot will have a new qualification which is like a btec and its called 'Babyhood' and it can go towards a lot of careers but basically from June time potential employers may look to see this in your CV and it will make you stand out to the rest of the U.K schools once you leave here." He continues.

"Within this project you will learn about responsible, how to look after a child and you will get mini jobs and roles that you and your partner will have to do. You will do the games in form time between eight forty five and five past nine each day for two weeks. Some days the teachers will just grade your progress, if you damage the baby then you will downgraded. Also games like exercises with your job and sceneries such as if you loose your job, what you will have to do and stuff like that. You will also get graded on your relationship with your partner. This will be a fun and new task." The head of year says to us, flicking through the PowerPoint slides.
