Unfolding The Unplanned.Chapter 03: Crawling Through Date Night.
(*) Hailey's Point Of View (*) – October 2016.
Grabbing the camera from the side table, I walk over towards the window-still and place the camera down onto it, turning it on and then I press 'record'. "Hi again friends and folks, I am going to read to the twins now in hopes that they will stop crying and be okay and not go to sleep. I don't want them to sleep, they need to learn how to be awake through-out the day even though they are still young and blah, blah, blah and Mommy, I mean me, sorry about that has a lot of stuff to do like hand in an essay to university tomorrow when she hasn't finished it. Whoops." I say to the camera, waving a little, making sure the camera is posited at the right angle in order for the camera to shoot me and the twins while I read them a story. I next walk over towards the two cribs and push the chair over towards the two cribs so that I am closer to the twins.
When I went to the Mommy and Baby class the other day with the twins, Toby, Olivia, Adam and Rachel, the man who run the class said that it is good to read to your baby/babies when they are little as it helps with their development – apparently the babies will learn quicker or something like that. Before I take a seat on the chair, I grab a book (The Little Gingerbread Men) from the small bookshelf that Jack gave to us a couple of months after we moved into this house. "So I am going to read to you lot now, so I hope you don't go to sleep just because Mommy is reading you a book, you need to sleep at night-time and let Mommy and Daddy sleep. So let's start, Once upon a time there was an old woman who loved baking gingerbread. She would bake gingerbread cookies, cakes, houses and gingerbread people, all decorated with chocolate and peppermint, caramel candies and coloured frosting." I say to the twins, Aria just looks at me like a crazy person – mouth wide open, forming an 'O' shape, while Alfie is fast asleep already, great that's the opposite what I wanted to happen.
Toby appears at the door, leaning against the doorframe, he throws me a smile which I just smile at. "How's the twins getting on?" He simply asks me, closing his eyes, he leans his head against the wall behind him.
"Yes they are getting on okay but Alfie here decided that he didn't like Mommy's reading so he went to sleep instead. So you wanna join us babe?" I ask him and he picks his head off from the wall, opens his eyes and nods his head in response. Next, he uses his hands to help him get up from the wall and strides over to us, he wrap one of his arms around behind my neck and the other arm goes under my leg – hoisting me up (bridal style). "Toby!" I exclaim as feet get lifted off from the floor, letting out a small scream, but end up laughing.
He places his butt onto the chair that I was just in and then places me on-top of him, instantly I wrap my arms around his shoulders and plant a kiss onto his lips. "Oh so Alfie went to sleep?" He asks Alfie and me once we have finished kissing, as he touches Alfie's face with his hands, rubbing his thumb against his check. I nod my head in response to his question.
"So do you want to carry on then darling?" Toby asks me and I nod my head in response, grabbing the book from underneath his butt, he wiggles his eyebrows as I reach underneath his arse and grabs the book, well it is his fault for sitting on it, how else am I going to get it if he plants his arse on-top of the book. Dam.
"Yes sure, I will carry on. She lived with her husband on a farm at the edge of town. The sweet spicy smell of gingerbread brought children skipping and running to see what would be offered that day. Unfortunately the children gobbled up the treats so fast that the old woman had a hard time keeping her supply of flour and spices to continue making the batches of gingerbread. Sometimes she suspected little hands of having reached through her kitchen window because gingerbread pieces and cookies would disappear. One time a whole gingerbread house vanished mysteriously. She told her husband, "Those naughty children are at it again. They don't understand all they have to do is knock on the door and I'll give them my gingerbread treats." I inform the twins as Toby places a comforting hand onto my thigh and leans his head onto my neck, closing his eyes. At this rate, I will be talking to myself in a couple of minutes.
