"Mum just go. My roommate will be here soon and I don't want to come off as a little kid who needs her mummy to stay with her. I'll be fine. Promise."
"My baby. In college. I never thought this day would come."
"Mum that's why we moved to America, remember?"
Oh, that's right." She joked. "Just let me take one more picture before I leave."
"Mum." I whined. "You've already taken at least fifty photos already."
"So what's fifty one?" She smiled and I stood in front of my bed and posed for the picture.
"There. Now please--"
"I know, I know. I'm going."
My mother pulled me in for one last embrace. I could hear her crying into my hair faintly.
"I love you Cassandra-- I mean Piper." My eyes widened at the use of Cassandra but I quickly recovered.
"Love you too Mum." I told her as she pulled away and opened the door.
"Bye." She said, barely whispering the words.
"Bye Mum." I sympathetically smiled at her as she closed the door before leaving me to begin my new life.
I started to unpack my things to make the dorm feel more like my own room back home.
I put up some photos, folded all of my clothes into the small closet and placed my school things onto my desk.
Getting here early really was a great decision because I got first choice at everything in the room.
"Hello?" The door creaked open and a girl stood holding a suitcase and a pillow with a bag flung over her shoulder. She had a lip piercing and the ends of her dark hair were dyed blue.
"Hi?" I asked as more of a question.
"I'm Leah."
"Leah Davies?"
"That's me. Is this room 15?"
"Yes, why?" I said as I stood up and walked closer to her.
"You just look as though you weren't expecting me."
"Oh, sorry. I guess I'm just surprised. You're picture looked so..."
"Different. Yeah I changed a bit since I applied for this school." She laughed but I didn't reciprocate. "You must be Piper Cunningham. I guess we're roommates." She smiled.
"I guess so."
I was slightly confused. Leah did not seem like the type of person to want to go to college, but she got in so how bad can she be?
"This mine?"
"The bed? Yep. So's and the desk and the closet."
"Great." She began to unpack her things.
While she unpacked her things I watched her put all of her slutty clothes away. Where did buy all of these clothes? They were way more daring than what I would ever wear but I didn't mind them.
She tried to start up a conversation with me but I kept my answers brief. I was too busy trying to work this girl out.
"How old are you?" All of the eye liner and mascara made my judgement clouded.
"Nearly twenty one."
"What?" I gaped.
"I took a few years off after high school." She explained. "Look, is this going to be a problem because you've been weird since I came in."
