Looking at the text from Tyler I sighed. It was over now. My hiding. I can no longer hide away in my family's wing of the housing building hoping no one would come along that I'd have to touh. I avoided the assembly so I wouldn't have to shake anyone's hand. Knowing someone's every thought before they knew your name was just plain wrong in my book. Sometimes being a reader was hard.
I lit a cigarette and stared up at the darkening, West Virginia night sky.
"What do you think you're doing?" I looked up into the face of an upperclassmen.
"Oh, hey Sally. I'm just enjoying the setting sun. How's it going with you?" I asked then inhaled the cigarette.
She smacked it out of my hand.
"Don't start with me Tristan. I tutored you all last year and I know you're not dumb. You of all people especially know that tobacco weakens our powers, and you shouldn't be smoking!" She said with a glare.
I looked from my now empty hand, to the cigarette on the ground, to her before jumping up. "That was the point!" I exclaimed. "If I'm going to have to sit through dinner with these people I at least need to be numb!"
"Tristan. The purpose of Lance is to teach you how to control your powers. We can't do that if your drugging yourself up..." We justed started at each other in silence... "Now," she started slowly. "Give me whatever you have left, sneak into the assembly, and we'll forget any of this ever happened."
I dug my box of cigarettes out of my pocket and along with my lighter I handed them to her. I slowly turned and started to walk away towards Myer Hall.
"Oh, and Tristan." I stopped and turned aorund to see what else she wanted. "If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here."
