I got back to Myer Hall just in time for them to release the first forms. "Walking Meat!" Someone yelled our code for approaching first forms.

We lined  up and took turns grabbing someone to walk to dinner with. When I got to the door I grabbed aburnette girl. "Hi, I'm Sally. Third Form. What's your name?"

"I'm Ava." She smiled and I could tell that she was truly happy to be here.

"Ava. Ok, hopefully I'll remember. So, this is the way to the dinner hall and like Headmaster was saying you'll come here two or three times a day. Where are you from?" I asked her as we walked along.

"Um, a small town in Alabama called Firewater. You've probably never heard of it..." She replied.

"It sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't think of where I would've heard it. 'I told her as we walked up to the dinner hall. "Here it is. Since tonight is a special night, we'll be served instead of going through the lines."

We walked over to a table and sat down. "Ok," I started. "On normal days everyone goes through the lines. Both the LU & LA programs eat together for breakfast and dinner, but since for the most part we're on different schedules, we have separate lunch rooms in the academic buildings."

Ava looked a little nervous and intimidated. "Sorry if I'm talking too much. This is my first time on the committee, so I'm pretty much just reciting what we've talked about in our meetings."

"Oh, I'm just a bit overwhelmed. It's a lot to take in. You know?" She tried to ease up a bit. "I've never been away from home for more than a few days at a times...This is all so different to me."

"That's what you're worried about!" I said a bit loudly. "Don't you worry. Soon, everyone here is gonna be like family. Lancers, you will soon find out, stick together and are always there for each other."

"Ah, ok! That actually sounds pretty great. I only have on brothers and he's 5 years older than me. And he goes here too. He'll be a sixth form this year."

"Wait, what's your brother's name? That's probably where I've heard of Firewater before."

"Nikolay. He was supposed to have come to the academy with me today, but he forgot to fly home yesterday...He was with his girlfriend." I could see it in her eyes that she really loved her brother, but I knew why he didn't come around her. When start your Lance training you get engulfed in it, and you can't go around your family for fear of hurting them. I also knew Nikolay. He's a sixth form who found his Nyath early and spends a lot of time with her.

At this point all the first forms had gotten into the dining hall and everyone was seated Marissa stood at the table she was at to talk.

"Hello again everyone! You should be sitting with committee members and starting to get to know the people around you. Since this is a special occasion, dinner is being served to you this evening. So, without futher adiue, bon appeit!"

The moment she stopped talking the kitchen doors opened and waiters piled out to serve us.
