Carolyn's POV
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
That one sound echoed in my ear, over and over and over again.
I watched as the life slipped from Jared's eyes as he fell unto his knees and then fell on his face, dead.
I dropped the gun and watched Jared's lifeless body in disbelief.
He was dead, gone forever because of me. I shot him. I killed him. I'm a murderer.
Oh God! What have I done?
I stumbled backwards, away from the body. My eyes glued to it,watching as a crimson liquid flowed from beneath the body, forming a pool of blood.
I closed my eyes tightly and opened it but everything was still the same. I closed my eyes again and pinched myself.
Wake up,Carolyn! Wake up!
I opened my eyes but nothing had changed. Jared was still covered in a pool of his own blood and I was still a murderer.
I'm a murderer. I killed someone. I killed Jared.
My mind finally registered what I'd done and I broke down in tears.
"No! No! No!" I cried, shaking my head in disbelief. "This is real! This is really happening!" Tears flowed out of my eyes uncontrollably.
"Jared." I whispered. "I'm sorry."
How did this happen? How could this happen?
My breath started to hitch as my heart pounded against my chest as if it was trying to break out.
My whole body was trembling in fright and guilt and regret. My eyes couldn't look away from Jared, not even for one moment.
What am I going to do?
"Jared!" A scream pierced the room, causing me to flinch from the loud sound.
Loren stared at Jared, eyes wide and her hands over her open mouth.
"No!" She shook her head in disbelief, taking in his dead form.
I couldn't even speak. I just stared at her.
She turned to me with horror in her eyes.
"Y-You killed him!" She gasped.
"I didn't—"
She pulled her phone out of her pocket and pressed on it,then put it to her ear.
"911. What's your emergency?" I heard faint voice say from Loren's phone.
"Loren—"
"My brother's been shot." She looked at me like she couldn't recognize me,like I was a stranger.
"My friend shot him and I think his dead!" She cried.
At that moment,it hit me.
I was going to prison for the rest of my life. I was going to be locked up in a small box for the rest of my life.
Oh no!
Without thinking,I ran. As fast as I could,I ran down the stairs and out of the house.
I had no idea where I was going,I just knew I had to get away from here. I needed to get as far away from here as I possibly could.

The sounds of sirens was almost blocked out by the sound of wind violently slapping my ear and the sound of my distressed breathing.
I was running as fast as I could, stretching my legs further and swinging my arms harder.
I felt tired and exhausted and I just wanted to stop. My muscles ached and so did my bones but I didn't stop running. I couldn't stop running cause if I did,it would be all over.
In a way I wasn't only running from the cops,I was also running from reality.
If I stopped running I would have to come to terms with what I did and I wasn't ready for that. I wasn't ready to face the fact that I'd just killed someone, that I'd just caused my family heartbreak, that I'd just lost my best friend. I wasn't ready to face reality. Not yet.
I turned into an alley where it was dark and searched for a place I could hide.
"Police! Stop!" I heard a deep voice yell causing fear to course threw my veins but that didn't stop me.
I ran into another street and continued to search for a hiding place.
I could still hear the sound of sirens and officers calling at me and I just wished it would go away. I wished I would just open my eyes and realize this was a nightmare,a terrible nightmare.
I spotted a dead end at the end of the street and looked round for another way out but there wasn't. I was trapped.
There was no way out. This was the end of the road for me.
Three black and white cop cars sped towards me,stopping a few metres away from me.
The cops got out of the cars, pointing their guns at me and I threw my arms up in the air in surrender.
One of them walked to me and turned me around, pulling my hands behind my back and slapping handcuffs on my wrists.
"You are under arrest for the murder of Jared Davis." The officer said. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law. You have the right to an—"
My mind drifted into space. Images of Jared shocked face when he realized I'd put a bullet in him flashed in my head. The way Loren had looked at me like I was a monster.
It was sad how my life had changed for the worst in only a matter of hours.
Just one pull of the trigger had changed everything. Just on little bullet had caused so much damage.
As I entered the car,I realized it wasn't just Jared's life I'd taken. I'd taken my own too and it was all because I pulled the trigger.
I'd done something I was going to regret and get punished for,for the rest of my life and I don't remember why I did it.
I don't remember why I was at Jared's house. I don't remember why I was in his room and I don't remember how I got hold of a gun.
I don't remember anything.
