chapter 16: This is all your fault, Jared

"—considering the limited time we've got, I think we should—"

"Jared."

"—pick an easy topic to work on—"

"Jared."

"—for our project."

Jared had been doing that throughout the class.

He didn't want to listen to a word I said and it was really starting to tick me off.

Why was he so hell bent on ignoring me?

"Well, I don't like it." I said just to provoke him and he gave a sigh of annoyance.

"Miss Reynolds, can I please switch partners?" He raised his arm to get the teacher's attention.

"I'm afraid you cannot, Mr Davis. Your stuck with your partner for the rest of the term." She informed him and he banged his head onto the table.

"Keep that up and you might damage the tiny piece of brain you've got left." I teased annoyingly and he groaned, tilting his head backwards. "Groaning isn't going to change the inevitable."

"Miss Reynolds, can I please go to the bathroom?" Jared asked again and Miss Reynolds narrowed her eyes at him for a moment before letting him get excused.

I groaned knowing there was no way in hell Jared was coming back.

What the hell did I have to do to make him crack?

Jared and I had most of our classes together today, so I had many tries and so far I hadn't gotten anywhere.

Right now, we had PE and Hailey was clinging to Jared like a leech.

Today's game was dodgeball and I was very excited about it.

Any opportunity I got to toss balls at Hailey I was going to take it.

As soon as I spotted the blonde bimbo, I let her have it.

I watched with glee as the ball hit Hailey square in the face, knocking her down to the ground.

I did a happy dance mentally, knowing for sure Hailey had gotten some kind of bruise but then I caught myself.

Why was I happy about inflicting pain on someone?

Sure I'd hated Hailey before she'd started dating Jared but now, all I wanted was for her to get hit by a bus or something.

Oh God, I'm sick! I'm going crazy!

This wasn't like me at all. What was happening?

I glanced back at Hailey to see her being carried up by Jared who looked genuinely worried about her.

Jared glanced at me with a look of hurt and disappointment in his eyes and I felt something break inside me.

For the first time in my life, Jared was able to invoke an emotion in me that wasn't hatred.
