Chapter 17: Thanks for the chocolate

"That isn't helping you know." Jared sighed, gesturing to my fingers that were impatiently tapping on the glass window.

"At least I'm doing something." I glared at him for a moment before resuming my tapping.

"I've tried everything, Carolyn. I can't make gasoline appear out of thing air, you know." He pointed out and I rolled my eyes.

"You should be able to." I retorted, deliberately trying to annoy him.

"Are you hearing yourself right now? Can anyone make gasoline appear out of thin air?" He was clearly getting annoyed.

"Well, Jesus turned water to wine." I pushed on and he groaned, hitting his head on the head rest.

"That's because he's Jesus Christ!" Jared pointed out. "He's God. I'm not God, I'm not even a demi-god. I'm human and I cannot make gasoline appear out of thin air."

"You're useless then." I stared out the window and continued my tapping.

An hour had passed now and not a single car had passed.

We just sat there in the car, praying for some miracle to happen but none did.

I'd thought about walking but I knew that was pointless.

There was nothing but corn crops for miles. I knew that cause I'd been here a thousand times.

It was going to get dark in the next hour and I would've hated to still be here when that happened.

I'd driven by here once at night and I was scared to the bone believing bandits were going to jump out of the bushes at any time and attack me.

Being stuck here with Jared wasn't helping either but it was the perfect time to find out what he'd been hiding.

Jared had been quiet for a couple of minutes, staring out of his window.

I figured he was mad at me but that didn't stop me from speaking.

"So, Hailey, huh?" I started and when Jared didn't speak, I continued. "You two make a wonderful couple, you know, since, you're both the devil incarnate." I turned to him but he didn't move. "How's her eye doing? Did I cause too much damage?" I pushed on but he paid no attention to me. "Don't answer me then. I'm great at one sided conversations." I shrugged and leaned the chair back so I could feel more comfortable in the seat.

I watched Jared who was now tapping on the window screen impatiently and I snorted, earning a glare from him.

"Would it kill you to be quiet?" He asked, clearly frustrated and I couldn't help the smile that formed on my lips.
