"Mark, look out!"

This was it. This was the moment Mark was going to die, and he knew it. He'd been preparing himself for this moment almost half of his life--but he didn't think it would come this soon. He wanted to at least raise a family, live in a house, or even kiss the love of his life--which he was pretty sure might've been right in front of him, but he won't say that out loud--before he died. But now, he wouldn't get to do any of that because he was pretty sure he was about to be brutally murdered.

He tensed up, eyes squeezing shut and shoulders raising as to protect himself. It was nice knowing you, life, but it looks like I won't be seeing you again. He prepared himself for an impact that would be horrendous, that would probably kill him--

But instead, he only felt the impact of a small body.

"Oh my god!" His ears lit up as Seán began cackling. "Mark!" Mark opened his eyes and sent his friend a glare. He suddenly remembered his sudden attacker, and so he turned around to face them, fully prepared to scold them. Instead of seeing the great monster he expected to see, he came face-to-face with the tongue of a small dog, which caused him to recoil back and splutter. "You should've seen your face." The man swiveled back around to glare at his friend again, the dog following him to continue slobbering on his face. He didn't want to do anything with it in case it was mean, but it didn't seem to be, so he accepted his fate and scratched the dog in between its ears. Mark noticed it had a collar, which meant that its owner couldn't be too far away.

"Oh my god, I'm sorry!" Speak of the devil. The two men turned around to find a short, pale girl with blonde hair and glasses frantically running towards them. She stopped, panting. "I'm so t-terribly sorry, for some odd reason, her leash c-came unclipped and she just took off!" The girl knelt down on the ground so the dog would come running towards her. "I'm so sorry."

"Nah, it's okay." Mark smiled politely. "She wasn't much of a bother."

"Yeah," Seán started, snorting, "but she sure caused quite the scene with Mark over here."

"Oh, did she s-scare you? I'm sorry," the poor girl nervously said as she stood up with her dog.

"No, she didn't; she just startled me." He chuckled. "I just wasn't expecting it. It's okay, you can stop apologizing. Although," he glared at Seán for the umpteenth time, "I'm sure Seán over here enjoyed it."

The girl smiled softly. "That's good that she didn't scare you o-or hurt you, then. Honestly, I don't think Rikka could h-hurt anything." She then rolled her eyes as her cheeks flushed, giggling. "Well, she does bite my girlfriend's toes sometimes, but that's it."

Both men laughed quietly, Mark asking, "What kind of dog is she?"

He saw Seán open his mouth to answer from the corner of his eye, but before he could do so, the girl herself said, "She's a Jack Russell Terrier." She laughed. "They're energetic little things; she sure does g-give me a workout."

The younger male grinned widely, fixing his glasses on his nose. "Yeah, they are. My family has one back home named Gizmo. She's old, but she's the sweetest thing."

The blonde grinned, nodding. "They're v-very sweet indeed." She then reached up, brushing a piece of hair that'd fallen out of her bun behind her ear and adjusting her dog in her arms. Her eyes widened as she gasped. "Oh my god, I totally just r-realized that I didn't introduce myself! I'm sorry." She reached a hand down, shaking each of the men's own. "I'm Alyssa, it's nice to meet you two." The dog in her arms barked, as if introducing herself as well, and Alyssa glanced down, "And this little booger is Rikka! If you can't tell," she giggled nervously, scratching behind her head, "I'm sorta kinda into anime."
