Otis's POV

I watched Stella push herself off the ground trying to get the ball. 'Why do you try so hard? It's just a game...' I narrowed my eyes at the girl.

I never understood why people try when they should just give up. It's not like the outcome would change. I breathed out and leaned forward against the ledge.

To my surprise, Stella's useless efforts paid off. I heard the whistle get blown and saw her fall to the ground holding her leg. My eyes widened slightly, but I refrained myself and pretended I didn't see anything.

The crowd cheered from behind me, as well as Stella's friends next to me. I should have been annoyed at the noise, but a loud blood screeching scream was heard over the rest.

"STELLA!" Asher and Evan both scream. The two jumped off the ledge, and landed on the ground. They both raced to the girl's side.

I let out a sigh and shook my held. 'Guess it really just was useless effort...' I jumped off the ledge and trailed after the other two.

Stella's POV

Tears welled up in my eyes, the pain in my leg felt like I was getting stabbed over and over again nonstop. I watched as people gathered around me, all of their faces had a horrified look. I bit my bottom lip, trying not to let out another cry. In the distance I heard my name, turning my head slightly I saw three boys running towards me. They pushed their way through the crowd and surrounded me.

"Are you alright?" Otis said as he looked back and forth from my leg to my face.

"Please tell me nothing is broken," Asher said in a frantic voice, his face very pale.

Evan stood there, talking to my coach. He crouched down next the me. I heard him sigh and he flicked my forehead. "You're an idiot."

My face reddened. I don't know if it was from anger or embarrassment, but either way I gave Evan a look. "You better stretched that, you don't want it sore later on," Evan said in his monotone voice as he pointed to my leg.

Otis and Asher gave him a bewildered look. I looked at the crowd and then at the two boys and said sheepishly, "It's just a cramp guys." I heard sighs of relief from my teammates and the other team, as well as the boys, minus Evan. Others sounded like they wanted me to have a broken leg or something just to put in the yearbook or newspapers. I sighed heavily and slowly straightened out my leg, wincing every few inches.

"Don't scare us like that Stell..." Asher sat on the turf, letting out a breath I bet he didn't even know he was holding.

I smiled at him and chuckled softly. "I'm sorry," I said with a soft voice. I asked my two friends to get me an ice pack and my stuff, the two nodded and left, leaving me and Otis alone.

Glancing up to Otis, he stood there rubbing his forehead with an annoyed look on his face. I puffed out a cheek slightly before asking, "So Otis," he looked at me, still annoyed. "What'd you think of the game?"

His facial expression softened, before he answered. "It was good, I enjoyed watching it." He faked a smile and I shook my head.

He raised an eyebrow at me and I smiled at him and whispered so only he could hear. "Liar."

I watched as his eyes widened, a shocked expression now on his face. It was almost as if he didn't want others to catch on to his lie. We stood there, well...he stood there while I was on the ground, staring at each other for a long time.

I heard footsteps coming from behind me. I broke away from his eyes to turn and see the two boys returning. Turning back to the still shocked boy, I reach my hand out to him. "Help me up, will ya?"

Otis's trance was broken, he looked at my hand for a moment before grabbing it with his own, hefting me up. I looked at him dead in his eyes and said, "What are you up to, Helen Otis?"

He looked deep into my eyes, not a single emotion showed on his face. Otis let go of my hand, causing me to wobble a bit. He turned his back to me and walked away, shoving his hands into his pockets.

I huffed as I dusted myself off. I took one last look at the direction Otis left then placed a smile on my face. I turned to see Asher and Evan behind me with my things. They both had a questioning look but I waved it off. "Let's go home, shall we?"
