Asher's POV
I looked at Otis with a dumbfounded look. 'Who the hell is them? And why is he asking me what I'm doing when he's standing in front of Evan's door talking to some sketchy guy?' I thought, my eyebrows starting to knit together. Otis tilted his head at me and I let out a sigh. "I'm here because this is my best friend's home and I'm here to check up on him since he wasn't at school today." His emotionless face said that he didn't buy it at all. I groaned and ran my fingers through my hair.
"Look," I took out my phone and unlocked it, showing every single second of it to Otis. I went to my recent calls and pushed my phone directly in front of his face. "The last person I called was my older brother, not this them that you speak of."
I watched as Otis flinched and took a step back, he then examined my calls, he even scrolled down a bit for more proof. He looked up at me then back at the phone, possibly still looking at my brother's number. "Why would you speak to your brother that way?"
"It's because he keeps calling me on what to do for the party we're going to have once school gets out." I said bluntly, pulling my phone away from him.
"Party, huh?" He uttered, his eyes following my phone till it went back into my pocket. The side of his mouth tugged and he returned to the same emotionless face.
"Yes," I said, with a bit of annoyance in my voice. "a party. It's something Stella, Evan, and I always do when school gets out. Plus..." My voice trailed out and I let out a sigh.
"Plus?"
I pursed my lips before proceeding. "It'll be like a going away party. I'll be moving during the summer so, yeah. That's it."
Otis stared at me blankly and hummed. "Huh, that sucks."
My eye twitched. I don't know if it's blank look or monotone voice that annoys me more, but talking to him irritates me whenever he's like this. "Yeah...hold on, you just changed the subject."
"I did nothing of the sort," he placed a hand on his chest to emphasize. "You just happened to led this conversation to where we just were."
"What do you mean I led the conversation? You were the one with all the questions." My voice steadily rose as I continued to speak.
Otis gave a short chuckle. "Don't blame me for being curious." He shrugged his shoulders.
I bit my bottom lip out of habit. "Maybe you should stay out of other people's business."
"It's not my fault that I'm in it when the person continues to explain out of their own will, even if I did ask the question out of curiosity."
"That's the point, Otis!" I practically yelled. "You assumed it was whoever "them" is, that I was talking to, you looked through my phone, you keep asking questions of things other people would think is really weird, especially since they hardly know you!"
"You may be right, but it was still your decision to show me your phone, and allowed me to look through it, and even continued to answer my questions." Otis smiled at me, not the kind of smile a person who was happy would give, it was the smile of someone who knew they were winning.
