Donatello stares at Casey with wide eyes. "Uh, come again?"
"That was my sister!" Casey repeats himself impatiently. "My twin sister, to be exact. And you just scared her away!"
Donatello, Michelangelo, Elizabetta, April and I exchange glances. All of us, minus the orange-clad turtle, seem to be thinking along the same lines: Casey Jones has officially lost his mind.
There's no way his sister is still alive. It just isn't possible, not after all that has happened. The Kraang mutated everyone in New York City. If she survived the invasion, she would have shown up before now.
Even if she is hanging around, then where is Casey's dad? He had lost him, too. I only saw one pair of eyes and one figure. Wouldn't they be sticking close together instead of staying separated?
None of it makes sense.
Michelangelo, however, seems convinced. "Let's chase her down!" he says, bouncing on his toes.
"Good luck catching her," Casey responds with a shake of his head. "She's fast. I've been trying to corner her all day. That was the first time she stopped to rest. I was just about to confront her, too, until you freaked her out," he adds irritably.
"Wait," I butt in. "You haven't seen that thing face-to-face yet, but you say it's your sister? That doesn't make any sense!"
"I have those gut vibes!" Casey insists. "I just know it's her."
"We can't base what that creature is on a hunch, Casey," April argues. "What if it's some kind of beast? It could kill us all in a couple of seconds!"
"That's not possible!" Casey says, but he looks less certain.
"Actually, that's more of a likelihood, considering Shredder has several minions doing his bidding around the city now," Donatello replies matter-of-factly.
Casey shoots him a nasty look. "Just help me find her, and we'll see who's right!"
"Oh, ok," I begin sarcastically. "Let's go track down the very thing that could put us in a life-or-death situation, all because of a hunch."
Casey opens his mouth for what seems like the billionth time, but Michelangelo interrupts. "Yeah! Now we're talking!" he turns and runs after the figure without waiting for another word.
"Mikey!" Elizabetta after him desperately, looking over her shoulder at Leonardo. Someone has to stay and watch him.
I groan in annoyance. "I'll go get Mikey," I tell the teenage girl. "You stay with Leo."
I race after my younger brother with Casey on my heels. Normally, the teenager would have thought twice about leaving Donatello alone with April. He must really believe the strange figure is his sister.
I finally catch up with Michelangelo and keep pace with him. We run down a crumbled sidewalk and pass building with broken windows. I have to tread carefully to make sure glass doesn't get lodged in my feet.
Michelangelo pauses abruptly, throwing his arms out to stop us as well. "There she is!" he whispers.
Several kilometers away is the figure, lurking in the shade of a water tower. It's too hard to make out what it looks like. The only image I can obtain is those strange eyes.
"Stay back, dudes," the orange-clad turtle orders. "I got this."
I glance at Casey and shrug. If it isn't his sister, the worst that can happen is Michelangelo getting attacked.
