Katie wiped away her tears and followed her parents to kitchen. Her parents sat next to each other on one side of the table and Katie sat across from from them.
Cindy: So, what do you have to say for yourself?
Katie: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.
Cindy: It's okay.
Katie: It's okay?
Cindy: We are upset with you, but we have to take care of you.
Jeff: Who have you told?
Katie: Alexis, Jordan, Chloe, Ethan, and Konner.
Cindy: Why Konner?
Katie: Um, he's the father.
Jeff: Konner?
Cindy: Konner?
Katie: Yes. Konner.
Cindy: Konner is the father?
Katie: Yes.
Jeff: Konner? Not Ethan?
Katie: Yes.
Jeff: And Ethan is okay with this?
Katie: Not exactly.
Cindy: What do you mean?
Katie: He broke up with me.
Jeff: When?
Katie: Right before you guys came to my room.
Jeff: I'm sorry honey.
Katie: It's okay.
Cindy: So what is your plan, Katie?
Katie: I was planning on keeping it.
Jeff: And how are you planning on making that work?
Katie: Well, I was thinking that we could turn the guest room into a nursery. Alexis said she could get me a job at the daycare she works at. And when I get that job, I could use the money to support the baby.
Cindy: Okay.
Katie: Okay? Just like that?
Jeff: Just like that.
Katie: Thank you.
Cindy: I will call Dr. Brown tomorrow morning and make an appointment.
Katie: Okay.
Katie went up to her room and called Konner.
Konner: Hello?
Katie: Hey.
Konner: How are you?
Katie: Um, to be honest, I could be a lot better.
Konner: I understand. So what's going on?
Katie: Why don't we get together for lunch tomorrow and talk about everything.
Konner: Sounds good. Um, want to just meet at the mall tomorrow at noon?
Katie: Yep, that sounds good.
Konner: Okay.
Katie: Well, it's getting pretty late so I think I'm going to go to bed now.
Konner: Okay. Good night.
Katie: Good night.
Katie hung up the phone and went to sleep. The next morning, she called the squad and told them everything that had happened the night before.
Alexis: How you doing?
Katie: I'm doing okay. I talked to my parents last night.
Jordan: How did that go?
Katie: It went okay. The didn't seem too mad, but they definitely seemed like upset and disappointed.
Chloe: Good. What did they say about our plan?
Katie: They agreed to it.
Alexis: Awesome. I'll talk to my boss tomorrow about that job at the daycare.
Katie: Thank you.
Alexis: No problem.
Jordan: What's going on with you and Konner?
Katie: Um, actually we are getting lunch later to talk.
Jordan: Girl, get you some of that cookie.
Katie: Shut up, this is serious.
Jordan: Oops.
Katie: Well I'm going to go eat breakfast. Bye, love you.
Jordan, Chloe, and Alexis: Bye, love you too.
Katie went downstairs and ate breakfast. After eating, she went upstairs and started getting ready. She put on some jean shorts and a t-shirt. She could barely button her shorts. She looked in the mirror. She looked at her stomach. There was a small bump. She put on a pair in old sweat pants and did her hair. She grabbed her keys and told her parents bye. She drove to the mall. She bought some new clothes, clothes that fit. She went to the food court and called Konner.
Konner: Hello?
Katie: Hey. Where are you?
Konner: Walking to the food court.
Katie: Okay. I'm standing by that Chinese restaurant.
Konner: I see you. Bye.
Katie: Bye.
Katie and Konner walked over to each other and said hello. They ordered their food and went to sit down.
Konner: So, how have you been doing?
Katie: I've been doing okay. What about you?
Konner: I could be better. I feel so bad about this.
Katie: Don't be. It's not your fault.
Konner: What are we going to do?
Katie: Well, I'm going to try and get a job at the daycare and I'm going to turn the guest room into a nursery.
Konner: Cool. What do I need to do?
Katie: Well, you don't have to do anything.
Konner: But I want to. I want to be there for you and our baby. I want to go to the doctor appointments, I want to decorate the nursery, I want to be there when it is born and I want to be the best father I can be.
Katie: Thank you.
Konner: You're welcome. So, when is the first doctor appointment?
Katie: Tomorrow at 3.
Konner: I'll be there.
Katie: Are you sure? You really don't have to.
Konner: I'm sure.
Katie: Thank you.
Konner: You're welcome. Um, Katie?
Katie: Yes?
Konner: I have a question for you.
Katie: Yes? You're scaring me.
Konner: Look, we are going to be spending a lot of time together. I mean, after all, we are going to be having this baby together. I just thought, maybe, it would be less awkward and maybe more enjoyable for us if we were together.
Katie: Are you saying what I think you're saying?
Konner: Katie, will you be my girlfriend?
