Growing up as a child my family wasn't close to perfect. I would barely get sleep because of my parents fighting and screaming at each other every night when my dad comes home drunk. There would be glass shattered on the floor the next morning. My dad would already be gone in the morning for "Work" which was actually the second life he lived with another woman. My mom would be passed out on the couch with whiskey slowly sliding out of her hand. Seeing the relationship my parents had made me believe there was no such thing as love. It made me believe every fairy tale was bullshit. Guys in my eyes were monsters. I told myself every night that love doesn't exist. To this day I forbid myself to fall for a guy because it would end up like my parents, And I don't want to live with that.

I woke up to the sound of the front door slamming. I slowly opened my eyes getting blinded by sunlight. I sighed sitting up. Dad's off again to his second life. I took a shower and got dressed. I grabbed my backpack walking downstairs. I dodged the shattered vase on the floor and into the living room. Mom was passed out with makeup smeared all over her face, a bottle of whiskey slipping from her fingertips. I quickly put it on the coffee table and walked to the kitchen. I sighed seeing no food anywhere. I hated my life. My mom had two jobs trying to help this family. She tried so hard and dad was the only one holding her back. He was a monster. Every guy is a monster. I walked out the door heading to school.

School didn't help anything either. I didn't have any friends. They thought I was a freak. No guys liked me but I'm okay with that because I don't like them either. "Vanessa!" A deep voice said and I turned around seeing the principal walking towards me with a teenage boy behind him. He must be new. "Can you take Grayson on a tour? I would do it myself but I have a meeting soon and your the first person I saw." He explained quickly checking his watch. I looked at all the other students passing and rolled my eyes. "Sure." I said quietly with a huff. "Thank you!" He said quickly walking back to his office for that meeting. "Hi I'm Grayson." Grayson smiled holding out his hand for a handshake. He was really cute I will admit that. I just stared at his hand which made his smile slowly fade and put his hand back to his side. I felt bad, but I cant help it. Guys are monsters.

"This is the pool." I said motioning to the empty clear pool. He nodded and we both exited the room. "So. You have a boyfriend?" Grayson asked looking at me while we walked. "No." I blankly said ignoring his stares. "Oh." He said looking forward again with a small smile. Why was he smiling? Because I said I don't have a boyfriend? Was he...Oh no. "I don't have a boyfriend because guys are monsters." I stated hoping that would change his mind about me. He looked at me with a confused expression. "Why do you say that?" He asked tilting his head to the side. "Because I live with one." I mumbled walking faster.

It was lunch time already and the principal told my first 2 classes. I was at my usual table sitting alone. Someone sat in front of me making me look up. Grayson. "Is the monster your brother? Because I have a twin brother and he's for sure a monster." Grayson said stuffing his face with his sandwich. I laughed lightly at what he said. He smiled at the fact he made me laugh. "No, My dad." I said lightly taking a bite out of my apple. Grayson furrowed his eyebrows and I sighed knowing he wants an explanation. "I grew up listening to my dad and mom scream at each other every night. He came home every night drunk. He leaves every morning for his second life with another woman. That's why I believe guys are monsters. They treat you like a queen and then they throw you in the dirt." I explained balling my fists up at the thought. "Not all guys are like that." Grayson said shrugging his shoulders. "Yeah they are." I scoffed rolling my eyes. "No. Have you seen any other guy do that?" He asked. I didn't say anything. He was right. "I can prove it to you." Grayson said with a wide smile. "What do you mean?" I asked furrowing my eyebrows. How would he prove it? "Let me take you on a date. Ill show you not all guys are monsters." He smiled his eyes lighting up with hope. He did puppy eyes making me feel a flutter in my stomach. I was unsure about the idea, But something about him made me lean towards the answer yes. I sighed with a small smile. "Fine." I said making Grayson smile even wider jumping up from his seat running to the other side of the table hugging me. This is the first time a guy has ever hugged me, and honestly it felt really good. He was strong and soft. I hugged him back out of no where. What was happening to me?

I put on the nicest clothes I could find and stared at myself in the body mirror. I was getting all dressed up for a guy. I cant believe I'm doing this. I heard a knock and I ran downstairs. I opened it seeing Grayson standing there with flowers. They were gorgeous. "For you." He smirked handing them out to me. I took them and held them up to my nose smelling them. They smelt lovely. I filled up a vase with water and put them in it. "Ready?" Grayson asked holding out his hand. I slowly put my hand in his feeling a tingly feeling. It was unusual but felt so right.

We both walked for a while talking and getting to know each other. Grayson was really nice and funny. He didn't seem like a monster, But you never know. He might be. He started heading for the woods making me worry. "Don't worry. You'll be fine." Grayson said like he read my mind. He pulled me closer into him wrapping his hand over my shoulder. I felt myself blushing.

"Were here!" Grayson smiled motioning to the empty park with a lake behind it. It was really beautiful. He must have decorated it himself. There was old couches and a plastic tarp over everything so it wouldn't get wet. "Its.....beautiful." I said looking around at everything. Grayson smirked and plugged in something making fairy lights turn on lighting up the whole place. "How did you do this?! I thought you were new here!" I said laughing. "I went to the a different school around here than I transferred to your school." He explained taking a seat on the couch. I sat down as well and we both talked again.

"I had an amazing night and I will admit. You might have changed my mind about guys." I said making his eyes light up. He smiled and grabbed my hands pulling me into him. I smiled and he did to. All of the sudden his lips were on mine. I was shocked. It felt amazing. I kissed back and wrapped my arms around his neck. He pulled away and kissed my forehead. "See you tomorrow." Grayson said stepping back. "Cya." I smiled running my thumb against my bottom lip. He walked away and I went inside. I ran to my room with the biggest smile. Best day ever.
