When I open my eyes, everyone is standing around me staring wide eyed. Rye hugs mom's arm and dad is kneeling beside me holding my hand.
"Hey Ally." He whispers as he holds my hand.
"What happened?" I ask trying to sit up, but a sharp pain shoots to my head.
"Effie said your name and you fainted. Wacked your head pretty good too." Someone says to my left, but can't see who becouse the sun is blinding me.
"You don't say," I reply rubbing my temple "My head is throbbing!" Mom walks through the crowd and hands me a glass of water and a couple of pills. I swollen reluctantly. Two men in white uniforms walk towards me. It's weird trying to talk to them becouse when you talk to a mask, all you cam see is your own reflection in the shiny face guard.
"Sorry Miss. Mallark, but we have to take you to the justice building now. You will get 20 minutes to say good bey to your loved ones once we get there." I sigh and nod. I knew it would come, but not so soon.  I get up, ignoring the rotating ground beneath my feet and lean on one of the peacekeepers.
I half lean half walk through the doors of the justice building and am escorted to a small room. There are silk sheets, mahogany dressers and chairs, and the carpet looks like it could use a vacuum. I am examining the beds silk quilts as my father comes in. He tells me how much he loves me. How proud he is of me. And to try to win. He also gives me a few pointers as to what to do once the games begin. I listen and nod every couple of seconds. Next mom comes in. She tells me how sorry she is, how she is proud of me too, and she told me a story from when I was young.
I was six years old when I wanted to play dress up with mom's cool gowns and makeup. I went into my mom and dad's room and went to the closet. I opened the door and a shoebox fell out, almost hitting me in the face. I jumped back and stared in suprise. I knew I shouldn't snoop, but I wanted to know what was in the box. I opened it and found several pictures of my mom standing with a blonde haired girl. She was pretty, and had her hair in braids on either side of her face. In one, my mom wore the blue dress I wore the other day, and the blonde girl had a skirt on with a blouse that wouldn't stay tucked in the back.
"Aloe," My mom said behind me. "What are you doing?" Embaresed, I stood up and backed away from the box. Mom smiled and took the box from the floor and looked at the pictures. She smiled and looked at me. She took my hand and led me to the bed. She explained about the blonde girl, Primrose Everdeen, and how she died during the uprising. She the explained about her nightmares. Why they came, and why they never really will go away.
I smile to myself. I give my mom huge bear hug and we both cry. She wipes my eyes and her own.
"OK,  love. Don't cry. There will be cameras all over the place. If they see you were crying, that would make you an easy target for the Careers. I love you." With that said,  a man in a white uniform steps into the room and says time is up. My next and last visitor is Rye.
"Hey Ally." He whispers. He looks like he was crying and he probably was.
"Hey. Hows my little Rye?" I say. I try not to sound like I'm going to die but that's harder said than done.
"Honestly," he looks at the floor as he walks towards me "I'm awful." I nod my head and look at his small hand on top of his lap and take it.
"You know about the games. There's a very small chance of survival, but don't let that discourage you," I say tears threaten to make an apearence but I shove them away "I'm a fighter after all."
"I love you, Ally. I will be a really good boy for mom and dad while you are gone. Just like you asked me to." I smile and hug him.
Before we get the chance to pull apart, a peacekeeper walks in and tells Rye that it's time to go. When he refuses, screaming that he doesn't want to go, the pecekeeper picks him up and drags him out.
I sit there stunned for several minutes before another peacekeeper comes to collect me.
