I was disappointed at what has happened.
Not even a week has gone by and my mother was already retreating back to her old ways. She made an effort most of the time, but it was small things; things that didn't mean much. Like giving Nessie and I both a hug and kiss at bedtime, actually talking to me and asking me about things that interested me or that didn't interested. I was happy, but at the same time disappointed. Disappointed that my mother did love Nessie more, even though she explained to me she loved us both equally, but her and Nessie "bonded" in a different way then we did, and happy because that left more room for me and Daddy to bond together.
Also, it gave me more time to practice my new gift.
I knew it was wrong of me, but my main subjects were my family members. The easiest, and most fun, was Uncle Emmy. His mind was pretty weak compared to the rest of my family, and therefore it didn't take a lot of pushing to invade. He was my main pawn of choice, occasionally breaking off to try to get my mother, which except for the day I discovered it, hasn't been a success. Her mind was so tightly guarded that not even a weasel could sneak in. I felt guilty sometimes but it was harmless after all.
But that's not what what my latest dream said.
It was pitch black, like the other one, but this was so different. Instead of the crispy, cold wind that chilled my bones before, it with a hot, moist air that made my hair feel about 100 pounds and my skin a layer of thick, sticky sweat. I was panting, I could feel my body heave with every passing breath, my lung burning.
"You made it. Finally." a voice that held no recognition sent a bone-chilling jar down my spine.
"Yes, but it wasn't easy. So, why did you want to see me?"
The voice chuckled. It was cold and had no humor in it. "Because Aro wished it."
"Yeah, well it's not exactly a secret that you and you sister are his panting lap dogs. Tell me, does he always scratch your ears after obey his command? Perhaps he may even give you a treat time to time. How did you even find me? I mean, I'm one helluva long way from Forks."
"The Volturi knows where all special vampires reside."
"That's not stalkerish at all. Then again, I wouldn't expect anything else for a murderous gang of psychopaths."
"Tis not wise to taunt a vampire, child."
"Ha! You forget, I'm also a vampire too. And don't call me child. You don't exactly look like you've hit puberty yet."
"You are very arrogant." I heard heavy footsteps step around me in a circle. I could feel the iciness of his eyes as he inspected me. "You have a loud mouth. That is most undesirable. You seem to be in good physical shape, obviously, except you are not nearly as beautiful as everyone was expecting."
"Excuse me?"
"Yes. As a product of two beautiful vampires, Aro was especially hopeful you would be exceptionally beautiful. It would make you that much closer to exceeding his goals. No one can say no to a pretty face. But you... Your utterly ordinary."
I felt the sting of his words even though I stood as straight and haughty. I knew it was something that this me heard often.
"You know, your a real charmer pal. "
"Oh well, I guess you will still do. Your gifts are much more important. Aro will still want you." the man- or boy- went on, ignoring me.
"I'm not a piece of property!" I shouted.
