"Who is this?"

His voice. Flashbacks of us started replaying in my mind suddenly.

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

Dang it, it's now or never.

"Hey."

Silence on the other end.

"Hello?" I said nervously into the phone.

"Vanessa? Is-is that really you?"

My god is this going to sound like one of those sappy conversations from chick flicks?

"Um, hi yeah it's me." I replied.

"Where have you been! Do you know how much time we spent trying to find you? And you just left without saying goodbye? How could you!" He yelled into the phone. I never expected him to be this upset over it but I understood where this was coming from. Even though we weren't together, he and I both cared about each other a lot, well I did.

"I'm so sorry Nick, I had no choice." I said quietly.

"What do you mean?" I could still sense anger in his voice.

"I'm sorry," I repeated. "I had to. I have to go now, Sam will fill you in."

"Wait, Sam's on this too?" He sounded furious.

"No I just bumped into him and had to explain to him. Sam, I need to go now." I quickly say. He paused for a while.

"Vanessa, I love you." He said. I froze. No! This shouldn't have happened! Ever since I I got paired up with a "mate", my attraction towards Nick has diminished by quite a lot.

"Nick, I got to go. Bye." I quickly hang up before he makes me cry even more. I didn't even realize that I had tears streaming down my face so I quickly wiped my cheeks before anyone saw. Sam walked towards me and gave me a box of tissues.

"How did it go?" He asked.

"Not well," I wiped. "I-I had to hang up. I couldn't hear his voice again. I told him you would explain everything to him."

"Well, then he would have to wait a couple more weeks." He tells me.

"What do you mean?"

"Well I decided to stay here for a while more longer to sort things out between Rachel and I and- Don't do that face! She's my mate!"

I smiled. He always could cheer me up. "Alright then. Nick would probably be worried sick."

"He's a big boy, he can handle himself for a while. Trust me on this." He said reassuringly. I looked at him and sighed.

"Alright then."

Friday came too soon. Today was the day I would move out. I packed my clothes in a box and my other belongings in another box. I realized that I didn't actually have that many things.

"Alright, your going to be late for school." Josh told me handing me my bag.

"Okay then I, wait. Your not singing, something happened. What?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" He said inspecting his dainty nails. I burst out laughing.

"Don't even try. Tell me." I demanded. He sighed.

"Stubbornness is never a good trait in a woman but fine, if you insist." He paused to breathe.

"Oh quit stalling!"
